    Lucky Belly

Great bowls of noodles. The Duck rolls are delicious and the service is friendly and accommodating. Located in the heart of downtown at the edge of chinatown.

    Kaka'ako Kitchen

Not a bad place to grab lunch or a cheaper dinner, but beware the lack of healthy foods. I ended up ordering a $12 Cobb salad, which was really delicious and filling, but still a $12 salad. The other menu items include a lot of fried or greasy sounding items, but my friends tell me it tastes good.

    Izakaya Nonbei

    3 reviews

One of the better izakaya places on the island, Nonbei definitely has been around a while, and built a loyal following. Their sushi is very good and they have an extensive menu. This place is small, so I would definitely recommend reservations.

This dim sum Restuarant is decidedly better than most. They also serve Shanghai steamed dumplings - my favorite.

    MW Restaurant

    2 reviews

MW stands for Michelle & Wade, and is a new fusion eatery tucked in the back of a former TV news station building. The food looks to be a hit, the decor is clean, and the service is personal.

    Sam's Kitchen

    2 reviews

Good bowls and bento boxes. Not cheap, but the garlic sauce is amazing. The spicy poke bowl ($8) was pretty satisfying, but the flavor in the ahi was lacking. The chicken teriyaki was pretty solid. Great place for a casual bite.

    Pineapple Room

    1 review

I actually prefer Alan Wong's Pineapple Room to his namesake restaurant on King St. The dishes are often similar but the price point is much less. I also feel like the tables are less cramped. One of my favorite lunch stops.

    Koko Head Cafe

I've been there twice now and each time keeps getting better and better. The Kim Chee Cheddar Bacon scone was terrific The Volcano Eggs – baked eggs, spicy tomato based sauce, cheddar cheese, choice of daily north shore vegetables or diced Portugese sausage was absolutely delicious. When you order this ask for a spoon to get every savory drop of ...

    Dash Gastropub

A popular gastropub known for its good eats. I dream about their butter fried mochi and furikake garlic chicken. Both go well with an ice cold beer. The drink menu includes something for everyone, from wine, cocktails and sake to draft and bottled beers. I was glad to see some of my favorite beers such as Deschutes and Hitachino. At ...

    Bonsai Restaurant

Had my 10-year high school reunion here recently. Let's be honest, a night like that is better served with a consistent connection of booze to mouth. At least that’s what I thought, anyway. Thankfully, Bonsai made the experience a lot more pleasant. With multiple levels and clean restrooms, we had plenty of space to move around. I suppose we had ...

    Zippy's Restaurant

There are many Zippy's all over the island. Best known for it's chili. It has plate lunches, bento boxes and buckets of chicken. The drive inn and sit down restaurant are usually side by side. Many have a Napoleon's Bakery along side of it. I like this location the best since it also has Japanese restaurant at this location.
