This is a nice harbor. We chartered a boat here, and had a great experience. The distance from the Waikiki hotels is not far, but be sure to take the number of a taxi with you for the return trip as they do not sit around in this part of the city.

The Honolulu Harbor is in the heart of downtown Honolulu, so unless you are used to big city life, cruising around this area might be a bit hectic. However, there are many establishments around that are very much worth visiting if you plan it out in advance. Restaurants covering wide ranges of cuisines and quality can be found lining this bustling waterfront. Visitors to Oahu arriving via cruise ship will be familiar with the area and the iconic Aloha Tower, since nearly every major such vessel drops anchor here for a day or so while in Hawaii. Though not exactly what one might expect from a Hawaii waterfront (there are no sandy beaches here) the Honolulu Harbor has an interesting history and is a great place to find some of the islands most high quality and diverse restaurants and shopping boutiques.

Description

Honolulu Harbor is Oahu's most bustling seaport, frequently hosting mammoth cruise liners and sailboats alike. Located in Mamala Bay, the harbor is overshadowed by the lighted clock and upper floors of Aloha Tower, which has been greeting vessels upon arrival to the Harbor since 1926. In 1850 King Kamehameha declared Oahu the capital of the Kingdom of Hawaii, paving the way for this harbor to ... read more
become the most highly trafficked one on the islands. The area surrounding the harbor is the most densely populated commercial area on Oahu, and home to her tallest skyscrapers. The Hawaii Maritime Center is found near Aloha Tower, and there are also several quality restaurants to be enjoyed along the waters edge. Honolulu Harbor, like New York Harbor, was the first introduction to America that immigrants from the east experienced, and is certainly a historic and attraction rich area as it continues to welcome ocean born visitors to this day.
