Hood River is a popular town for Portlanders to windsurf, bike, and partake in other outdoorsy activities. The views of the forests and mountains, particularly Mount Hood is impressive. It's about 1 - 1.5 hours outside of Portland.Recommended for:

Hood River is a charming little town in the Columbia River Gorge. It's very walkable, and full of fun shops, and plenty of places to grab a local beer or wine. Of course, it's the Windsurfing and Kite Boarding capitol on Oregon/the Northwest as well.
Hood River is well situated as an end point after a day of hiking waterfalls in the gorge, either for drinks and dinner, or to stay the night and enjoy the river the next day.Recommended for:
