This is the cheapest place I know of in town – just $11 for a dorm room and $25 for a private double room – so it's no surprise that you're not getting anything fancy here. There's a single computer and and old-style TV in the crowded lobby, no AC, and the private rooms have cheap plastic tables and chairs. But considering the prices, it's actually a pretty nice place: it's obviously been kept up really well both inside and out. Everything is pretty clean. The small private rooms have bathrooms en suite. The décor is minimal, but bright-painted walls and well-placed mirrors make the rooms feel warm. All in all, it's as nice as some places that are more expensive.

The idea here is not unlike the real estate investors mantra "worst house, best neighborhood". That's not to say anything negative about this find, it's very clean and very basic. The private room we saw was a little hot with just a ceiling fan for cooling. The room was pretty small with a simple bed, plastic table and chairs and attached bathroom. The private room will set you back $25 and a spot in the dormitory is $11, no that's not a typo. The staff, however, was a little lethargic but I can hardly blame them, it's balmy in there.

This is an extremely basic dormitory in the old city (Casco Viejo) in Panama city. The reception is friendly, but the dormitory rooms and furnishings deserve an upgrade and better hygiene.
