While I worked in the University City area of Philadelphia, I used to frequent this place at lunch. The local seasonal ingredients, tasty dishes and fantastic bread were the main attraction. I haven’t been there in a while but I hear that it’s still good and worth visiting. Update: We had dinner here recently. The place has been renovated and ...Popular withFoodiesFamiliesGreen

Hemo's truck has been around for quite a while at UPenn's campus. The jovial Egyptian proprietor serves up delicious chicken and beef cheesesteaks at very student friendly prices. Don't forget to ask for both Hemo and hot sauce with your sandwich!

I usually don't like vegetarian food but Magic Carpet is seriously amazing. I had a seitan steak bowl and everything about it was superb (portion, price, taste). One of the best and healthiest food cart options around UPenn.Popular withVegetarian

On Penn's campus inside Houston Hall, this creperie used to be a food truck before its popularity forced the university to give it a permanent indoor home. The crepes are absolutely huge and filling. Word on the street is that the chicken diion is a great savory while any of the Nutella based sweet crepes will keep you full for ...

The Pod restaurant is a decent enough concept restaurant that I chose for its location rather than its food. It uses modern but dated designs to wow people instead of impressing them with the food.Popular withTrendstersStudents

Saw this place on Anthony Bourdain's Layover episode of Philly, and decided I should check it out. The place was packed, and for good reason. The food is excellent, and the service friendly and super quick. It probably isn't your best option if you want to have a slow quiet dinner, but that would be the only downside that I ...Popular withFoodies

College students and beer connoisseurs love City Tap House for its rooftop and insane selection. Create a profile at the bar that keeps track of which of the hundreds of beers on tap you like and dislike. The standard gastro pub fare helps patrons keep pace during long nights of drinking.Popular withTrendstersStudentsFoodies

Great brunch food - partial brunch on Fridays and full brunch on Saturday and Sunday. Also, very nice smoked salmon sandwiches. Service can be at times slower but staff's attitude and congeniality more than makes up for it.

Audrey Claire serves up delicious contemporary American fare that is locally grown and organic. Consistently excellent. Share the grilled veggie appetizers with your eating partner before you dig into a bucket of mussels. FInish off with the lamb entree - you definitely won't be disappointed. BYOB which is quite the pleasant surprise for such a great restaurant as this, so ...

Great little spot in University City that sells an enormous selection of kabob, shawerma, falafel and hummus platters and sandwiches. Even has salmon salads for the fat and grease conscious. Try the hot sauce - it's got kick. Plenty of seating available inside, even during lunch time, which makes this an excellent overlooked alternative to the always popular Chipotle -- ...

Abner's Cheesesteaks is quintessential Philly food, like a New York bagel or a Chicago deep dish pizza. As a foreigner, I can't speak to the best cheesesteak debate, but my Philly friends took me to Abners and I liked it. It's certainly a lot better than the pretenders I've had in other cities.
