Hostal Marlasca is like a small, cute boutique hotel. It's located just off Puerta del Sol so the location is amazing!
I was in one of the rooms on the lower floor, so it was a little bit older than the ones on the upper floor (they've been recently renovated and decorated) but even still, it was clean and comfy! Despite its central location it was still quiet, even though it's an old building. There were a lot of people in reception when I arrived and everyone was really enjoying the Hostal and the friendly atmosphere. The walls are chock-a-block with old paintings and ornaments, and it feels a bit like walking into a granny's apartment, but in a good way!

Compared to the hostel we stayed at in Barcelona, this place was like a small boutique hotel.
    Pretty sink in bathroom, check.
    Tons of recessed lighting, check.
    Comfortable beds, check.
Key card that turns on the electricity in the room (cool!), check.
    Dark pergo flooring, check.
Large flat-screen TV angled towards the beds, check.
Cute cafe table set with bar stools, check.
    Digital thermostat, check.
    Free towels, check.
Free bars of soap and shampoo packets with Hostal Marlasca logo, check.
    In room safe (pay-per-use), check.
Entrance buzzer for every floor (safety feature), check.
    Several free wifi options, check.
    24 hour reception, check.
    Early check-in, check!

This room was like an Extreme makeover compared to the Barcelona hostel we stayed in. It was not only €25 per night cheaper, it was cleaner, beautifully decorated and located near Puerta del Sol. I loved this place! Still no kitchen and the shower head in the bathroom wouldn't stay in the bracket but for all the pros, I can take a con or two. Great place to stay with an excellent location.

Great location for a hostel. For me, there were no true stand outs or problem areas that grabbed my attention as I walked around with the concierge asking various questions. Bed are a decent size, but might be on the small side for taller people. Bathrooms are clean and standard size. There’s a common area to hang out and meet other travelers or plan your day before heading out. This a no frills hostel with all the basics. Perfect for backpackers and budget travelers because the competitive price definitely won’t put a dent in your budget if you want to spend your free monies on food, booze or shoes.
