Hostel of the Sun

Via Melisurgo 15, Naples 80123 Italy
7 reviews

I loved staying at Hostel of the Sun. I like a bit of privacy so I booked my own room (with a balcony!) I got great advice on what to do from all the staff, who were incredible and maintained a fun calm atmosphere amid the comings and goings of travelers. Because of the social nature of breakfast and the ...

    Castel Nuovo (New Castle)

0.15 mi from Hostel of the Sun
    8 reviews

This is the first authentic European castle I've been to, so I can't say that I have a lot to compare this place to. I saw it from port when we cruised into Naples, so it was a great place for us to go to. Since I love castles, I could hardly contain my excitement when I saw it. The ...

We came here by chance, but were very happy to discover this beautiful jewel of Naples. Palazzo Reale has a fantastic position in front of Piazza del Plebiscito. We could admire it from a balcony. Affrescos inside the palace are really astonishing.

Departures for Capri and Ischia run from Molo Beverello. The port itself isn't that gorgeous, but the view out into the Mediterrranean is.

The "Centre Storico" of Naples is the heart of this great city. The streets are lined with beautiful churches and artisian shops, as well as the best and most famous pizzerias in the city. The archaeological museum and Via San Gregorio Armeno are must sees.

This is a MUST in Naples, if you come here you should visit it! The MANN (which stand for National Archaeological Museum of Naples in italian) is one of the most important museums of the world because of the huge collection coming from the whole "Magna Grecia" area (Paestum, Pompei, Ercolano, Naples...), but there's also a very interesting Egyptian Collection ...

Pretty interesting spot. I am not going to write much about the history of the castle, but this is also a fun place to hang out. Me and my friends used to spent nights on the rocks by the sea, just drinking cheap beer and eating pizza, great times. There is an area behind the castle called Borgo Marinaro, which ...

In this very small, beautiful but hard to find chapel is the "veiled Christ." Absolutely wonderful sculpture. Kept passing the small side street that led to the chapel, but then finally asked keep looking and asking, and get there.

    Via Chiaia

0.64 mi from Hostel of the Sun

I really do love Via Chiaia. It offers a different vibe from Naples' historic downtown, yet it isn't as inaccessible as Via dei Mille. It's clean, streets aren't clogged with cars and the people are all very stylish. If you want to step away from the sometimes dirty streets of downtown Naples, take a break here. When you're ready for ...

If possible, go to Herculaneum (Ercola) and Pompeii first to get an idea of what a mind-blowing experience it must have been to uncover the mosaics, frescoes and statues now kept in this museum. "Beautiful" doesn't nearly describe the color, the liveliness captured in these works, celebrating food, love, myth and life. The people who walked by and appreciated this ...

The beautiful handicraft tradition of presepe (nativity scene) making is preserved on this street of artist's workshops, tucked into the historical center of Naples. These craftsman work year round, turning out everything from stunning angels to cartoon-like tiny replicas of soccer stars and political figures--lately I've seen the Obamas. Warning--the via is mobbed at holiday time--but it's still fun to ...

When I went in the spring of 2014 it was to see the "Andy Warhol Vetrine" show. The show, nearing the end of it's run, was sparsely attended while I was there. Opened to the public since 2010, the Bourbon Tunnel is a relative new attraction in Naples.
