Hostel of the Sun

Via Melisurgo 15, Naples 80123 Italy
7 reviews

I loved staying at Hostel of the Sun. I like a bit of privacy so I booked my own room (with a balcony!) I got great advice on what to do from all the staff, who were incredible and maintained a fun calm atmosphere amid the comings and goings of travelers. Because of the social nature of breakfast and the ...

    Castel Nuovo (New Castle)

0.15 mi from Hostel of the Sun

Overlooking the bay this giant castle makes you imagine renaissance napoletano counts plotting their next move, or watching the horizon for hostile ships. Great lookout point, beautiful structure.

We came here by chance, but were very happy to discover this beautiful jewel of Naples. Palazzo Reale has a fantastic position in front of Piazza del Plebiscito. We could admire it from a balcony. Affrescos inside the palace are really astonishing.

Departures for Capri and Ischia run from Molo Beverello. The port itself isn't that gorgeous, but the view out into the Mediterrranean is.

    National Archaeological Museum of Naples

0.92 mi from Hostel of the Sun
    12 reviews

Sure, this museum is jumbled and overstuffed, but a) it is Naples, and b) there is so much to display. If you're at all interested in Roman history, art, architecture, archaeology, coins, culture, etc, this museum should be second on your list (after the National Museum in Rome).

    Historic Centre of Naples

0.62 mi from Hostel of the Sun
    19 reviews

In my opinion one of the most genuine historic centers of Europe because its still a residential zone and a commercial area for those residents. No international shopping brands or chain restaurants here. Just bakeries, butchers, and coffee bars. And a tremendous amount of churches. The streets are narrow and the buidlings are high. I could walk around the "centro ...

Pretty interesting spot. I am not going to write much about the history of the castle, but this is also a fun place to hang out. Me and my friends used to spent nights on the rocks by the sea, just drinking cheap beer and eating pizza, great times. There is an area behind the castle called Borgo Marinaro, which ...

This is a truly stunning square. Its quite insane to think this place has been used as a parking lot for buses for many years, before the administration finally figured out what a terrible thing they were doing. This is a really cool place to hang out and one of Italy´s coolest squares.

This is a really unusual place, one of the city´s best kept secrets. It is a church in the heart of the historical centre featuring some impressive artworks, including a sculpture entitled "Cristo Velato", which is known for the impressive details. On the basement, there are some ancient bodies whose organs and veins have been sort of "petrified" and are ...

Galleria Umberto is a lovely galleria with its perks and downfalls. As beautiful as it is I mostly use as a passage to get to the other side quicker. It's too bad that such a fascinating architecture has turned out to be a timesaver for me, and so many others.

    Duomo di San Gennaro

0.89 mi from Hostel of the Sun
    5 reviews

Naples' most impressive cathedral, the Duomo stretches higher than many Roman churches. It's an impressive offering inside, complete with frescoes and a crypt. Totally worth a visit, especially given it's one of the few churches in Naples that isn't completely closed.

If you want to have a fun time in Naples, this is one of the best place for nightlife and youth culture. In naples (and southern Italy in general) it´s not much about getting to a club, but more about the square, so its very common that people just hang around there, meeting other people, playing and listening to music, ...

    Via Chiaia

0.64 mi from Hostel of the Sun

Even though I've never really loved nor hated Via Chiaia I cannot give it a fair review. I usually use this street as a passage rather than actually going there intentionally (I used to live nearby). It's not really my type of street as I prefer other parts of Naples over this one. Nevertheless, it's a nice street for those ...

If you are interested in the history of the Roman Empire, then this museum is an absolute must. It contains a large collection of Roman artifacts from the nearby ruins of Pompeii, Herculaneum, and Stabiae. They have a great collection of classical statues made in marble, as well as more recent renaissance artwork. If you plan on visiting Pompeii or ...

The beautiful handicraft tradition of presepe (nativity scene) making is preserved on this street of artist's workshops, tucked into the historical center of Naples. These craftsman work year round, turning out everything from stunning angels to cartoon-like tiny replicas of soccer stars and political figures--lately I've seen the Obamas. Warning--the via is mobbed at holiday time--but it's still fun to ...

When I went in the spring of 2014 it was to see the "Andy Warhol Vetrine" show. The show, nearing the end of it's run, was sparsely attended while I was there.
