If you’re not familiar with Hostelling International (HI), it’s worth keeping in mind for travellers on a tight budget. Yes it is a hostel, but the HI network has done a great job of ensuring that all their locations are more than you would expect. The Montreal location situated on a quiet side street in the heart of downtown Montreal is no exception. They offer shared and private rooms, but something I personally appreciate and which you don’t see in many hostels is a private bathroom within each room (obviously just 1 for a shared room). On the lower levels there is a communal room for guests to congregate, a restaurant that serves the meals, and even a full kitchen where those interested can prepare their own food and store groceries in the fridges. On site paid laundry machines and a computer room adds to the value and really offers the things a backpacker or thrifty traveller would appreciate. What I really liked though were the variety of activities and events organized by HI Montreal offering group outings, hockey games or bar hoping for people looking to see more of what the city offers. As far as hotels go, this one gets an A+.Recommended for:Backpackers
