Where to find Chi-town’s best fries? At its favorite sausage superstore, of course, where hefty portions of thin, freshly cut fries come in three distinct varieties: standard, smothered in cheese, and with duck fat—the last option so decadent that it’s available only Fridays and Saturdays. It’s worth battling the eatery’s strange hours and long lines for a sampling. And if you’ve got four wheels, detour over to Gene & Jude’s Red Hot Stand for a fries comparison. At this old-school roadside joint, the dogs come piled high with tons of crispy, fresh-cut fries—just the way your taste buds intended.

Hot Doug's is everything encased meats and one of the best places to get a Chicago hot dog. Truly a Chicago favorite as the city adorns its meats and fried foods. Doug, the owner, seems to always be working and he is huge celebrity to the city.

A Chicago institution, but it's going to be closing on October 3, 2014. Go there before it's gone! This corner hot dog shop owned by a die-hard Cubs fan takes hot dogs to the next gourmet level with wild game, berries, nuts, cheeses and all sorts of unexpectedly awesome flavor combinations. Don't be surprised to see a line outside and wrapped around the corner at this super-popular spot.Recommended for:

A Chicago institution. Doug is a trained culinary chef...not just a dog maker. But he creates unique dogs with flair...fois gras, special toppings, duck fat fries, etc. Long lines are expected and it's off the beaten path. You won't regret a visit!

Is there a better hot dog(s) in the best hot dog city in the world? NO.
Last time I went to Hot Doug's I ordered four dogs... wait, that's every time I go to Hot Doug's :) I would recommend trying their game meat dogs. Life is short... eat through it.
And their duck fat fries kick ass! Go, Doug!

DEFINITELY a spot to come to when you're in Chicago. I wouldn't miss it and yes, we did wait about an hour and a half and were out in about 20 minutes. Was it worth it? Hells yes it was.
The owner Doug was SUPER nice and even advised us to get the small soda when we ordered a large because we were dining in and there were free refills. hahaha. Cool!
A lot of reviews said the Salma Hayek wasn't spicy at all so we didn't get that. We went with the Foie Gras and Sauternes Duck Sausage with Truffle Aioli, Foie Gras Mousse and Fleur de Sel and the Cheesy Atomic Bomb (I think that's what it was called).
The foie gras was AH-mazing. I would never have thought to put the two together, but it works. However, it's super rich and almost half way through, I was done.
The Cheesy atomic dog came with a spicy pork sausage topped with cheddar cheese. OMG. This was SO good too. It had a great kick of spice and tasted really rich and creamy too. YUM YUM.
I wouldn't really call Hot Doug's a "hot dog" place only because when I think of hot dogs, I think of those processed, white, unappetizing Vienna sausages that they slap in a very sad looking bun. I mean, they DO have the regular Chicago dog here with that type of thing, but why when you can get a pork sausage or duck sausage or a mix of buffalo and elk?
Next time I'm in Chicago, you'll be sure to find me here again and earlier in line. We got here 15 min after they opened on a Saturday morning and still waited 1.5 hrs!! Insane. The things I do for food.
