Juxtaposed with the historical appearance of the building, Hotel 140 offers a modern, luxurious, and cozy atmosphere within the confines of their walls. Hailed as one of the most affordable hotels in Back Bay, Hotel 140 far exceeded my expectations of just being a “cheap” hotel. Each room is furnished with a bed, television, and refrigerator, essentially the basics of any hotel. Guest passes to a nearby fitness club are offered to clients who desire a gym or pool. However, the biggest factor that put Hotel 140 over the top was the friendliness and warmth of their staff. Athena, the manager, runs a very close-knit staff that seems very relaxed, yet professional at the same time. We were even cracking jokes in broken Spanish with Pedro, one of the maintenance workers. Overall, Hotel 140 is a great value hotel with a wonderful staff and unbeatable location.

I'm personally more partial to hotels with a bit more character and a boutiquey feel, so Hotel 140 was right on the mark. You can tell the building is on the older side, but it still feels clean and the interior has been modernized. One of the staff members told me that the building was originally constructed as the first YWCA in the country, and still houses a school and a performance center apart from the hotel. It's worth noting, however, that they do not offer breakfast of any kind. Location is top notch.Recommended for:Budget Travelers
