From the moment you step inside this building you'll notice that it's not a typical hotel. First, no elevator, it's a walk-up. There's a small front desk that fits one person. This budget-hotel is still converting rooms to hotel rooms as renters leave the building. Guests live among current tenants so you could easily pretend you're renting an apartment steps away from the Meatpacking District, Chelsea and the West Village.
There's not much in terms of amenities but they do provide shampoo, soap, towels and even bathroom tissue in your rooms. The TVs in the rooms come with cable and some specialty channels such as Direct TV and ESPN. Wifi is also available with a surcharge. Their two-bedroom suites provide the most privacy, a private bath, and the largest appliances, an additional stove & oven. In most rooms you'll have to share a bathroom and you're only provided a kitchenette with a sink, mini-fridge and microwave.

As renters move out and leave room for more guests, this unassuming hotel is becoming less of a residence and more of a location for tourists and those with short-term hospitality needs. Both economy rooms and the standard rooms are surprisingly spacious, with plenty of room for luggage and movement in the area as well as a kitchenette in all rooms. Economy rooms share a bathroom with one other economy room and private rooms feature their own bathrooms as well as a futon to sleep more guests. Wifi costs $19.95/week and can be shared on up to two devices, but a small computer room in the back of the hotel allows for free computer access. Flat screen TVs in each room also have cable access.
A large outside garden area in back is currently under renovation but provides lawn furniture and a nice place to escape the city and sip a coffee and relax. Reservations for 7 nights or more receive a 50% discount.Recommended for:

Hotel 309 is a no frills budget hotel in the meatpacking district. The location at 8th Avenue and 14th St. is convenient and right next to a A/C/E stop.
I stayed in the four person room with a private bath and a kitchenette with a microwave, refrigerator, sink, and basic dishes. There was a decent main bed and a cheap futon. Other, cheaper rooms share a bath.
Heat is from a radiator, so don't expect to control the temperature minutely. At least the humidity is decent.
There's hotel WiFi for a reasonable charge. There's a 24-hour drugstore on the corner and plenty of restaurants on 14th Street.
Now that I've stayed here, I don't need to stay here again.
