Walking into the dark, antique-feeling space, I had an intense feeling of Hotel Deja-Vu at Hotel 31. I was informed that it the property was related to Hotel 17 further south (on 17th St), which explains the almost identical layout and decorations. More shabby than chic, the interior design could use an upgrade, but the accommodations are still decent. Single rooms with shared bathrooms still have their own sinks and towel stations, so you can wash up before bed without venturing down the hall. The old-fashioned elevator can be necessary for moving up luggage, but is unfortunately slow and a bit scary for those of us used to modern technology. Carpeted stairways are a viable option.

If you're thinking this hotel seems familiar to another hotel in New York, you're right. It's a sister hotel to Hotel 17 so the fondness for wallpaper continues at this hotel. My favorite part of the building is the lobby; you are greeted by a pretty chandelier and wood paneling.
I wish the flooring wasn't carpet but at least the beds look big and comfortable. The rooms all have a writing desk, a LCD TV with basic cable, a coffee and tea maker and an air conditioning unit.
One of the things I noticed were the large mirrors in the hallways. It's always nice to be able to check yourself out before leaving a hotel in case you missed something stuck between your teeth or hairstyle gone bad. This is also an ideal location being walking distance from so many attractions like Times Square and Rockefeller Center. It's also close to a lot of restaurants.

Two girlfriends and I shared one room here. It was relatively inexpensive, comfortable enough, and well located. There were drugstores and restaurants in the neighborhood, and it was always easy to catch a taxi nearby. We had a great time and I'd definitely stay here again.
