Tere are many fancy and expensive international hotels in dowtown Caracas but this is an oldie, built by the Rockefellers in the 50's, this white dream sits atop a mountain overlooking the city. It's an easy and cheap taxi fare to anywhere in the city. Hotel mood is quiet and relaxed, (above the fray!) unlike the NYC-like vibe downtown. There is a good restaurant and the rooms are very nice. The Avila has great security and all amenities. A pool (always COLD), night club, tennis, etc. Eccentric Venezuelan poets and artists hang at the bar here and some even seem to have studios deep in the bowells of the hotel. It helps to speak some Spanish here, although the hotel staff is mostly bilingual.
