Hotel B Cozumel is a newcomer to the island and a great one at that. Mixing modern and mid-century esthetics with traditional Mexican décor, it’s a hottie of a hotel, which makes you feel like you’re running with the in-crowd. Rooms are sleek but include gorgeous and unique pieces of Mexican folk art; they’ve also got the modern amenities you’d expect—cable TV, silent A/C units, wireless internet. Almost all of them have ocean views and balconies too. There are lots of outdoor spaces, including a great half-moon-shaped pool, hammocks, chairs galore and a breezy restaurant offering a fusion of Mediterranean and Mexican cuisines. The only thing lacking? A beach. This part of the island has lots of ironshore so the hotel has worked with it by creating lots of sandy areas and entry points to the water. Nevertheless, it still gets my vote for rookie of the year.Recommended for:

This place is so cool! A waterfront boutique hotel, with upscale amenities and refreshingly whimsical style and ambiance. I happen to love Mexican art, and this hotel not only has a great collection but puts it to good use inside and out. Rooms are on the small side, but comfy and stylish, with balconies and ocean views. The little design touches are great: a curtain made of string knotted in the shape of flowers and picture frames made out of painted boxes. This being Cozumel, there’s no natural beach, rather a large patch of sand-filled shore that’s outfitted with chairs and umbrellas. Ladders and platforms provide access to the ocean, and there’s also a small clean pool and plenty of deck space. For a great sunset, grab a spot in the hot tub built into a rock outcropping.
