I just left Jaisalmer after traveling through all of Rajasthan. Hotel Bhawana, situated a 3-minute walk outside the fort, is by far the friendliest hotel I've stayed at during my entire 3-week trip. The manager, Kuba, who also goes by the nickname, Mr. Happy, treats each and every guest like a member of his own family. There are 9 rooms, each with a TV, 24-hr hot water, and free Wi-fi. This is a new hotel, and though it's not the most luxurious option in Jaisalmer, the rooms are immaculately clean and at a price that cannot be beat anywhere in the area Rooms start at 150 rupees, which is a steal for what you get, especially compared to other hotels in the area. Dormatory beds are 50 rupees, with a shared bathroom. The rooftop restaurant is a relaxing spot to take in views of the whole city. Most likely, Mr. Happy or his brother, Sanjay, will join you for a chai, and tell you about the history of Jaisalmer or stories about their lives. I even got a personal tour by motorbike of the area and sunset at Lake Gadisagar. They are also more than happy to arrange non-touristic camel safaris into the desert, shopping tours and they even brought me to a nearby studio to practice yoga. Hotel Bhawana is truly a home away from home in Jaisalmer.
