My experience of Hotel Brunelleschi was outstanding from beginning to end. The place is absolutely in the center of the throbbing center of Florence, in the pedestrian-only zone, tucked into the little alleys right around the Duomo. When you stand outside the building you can see that it is like two tall, narrow buildings pressed up next to each other: one an ancient torreone (stone tower as though out of a fairy tale); the other as modern a building can be and still honor it's surroundings. And that aesthetic is carried throughout the hotel -- the designer has done a stellar job of marrying the old with the new. The lobby is gorgeous, with a fireplace at the end.
Every detail is considered: even the cleaning carts are somehow beautiful. This hotel is truly boutique. Here's a tip when booking: stay over Sunday and Monday nights and you'll get a much lower rate (this is true everywhere in Florence). Another tip: when booking the hotel ask for a discount if you also book a reservation in their restaurant (upstairs) or bistro (downstairs).
I happened into one of their conference rooms at one point and could imagine how different a meeting would be in that space than in a traditional Hyatt conference room: floor to ceiling windows let in tons of natural light and one wall of the meeting room is the exposed stone of the torreone.
Added bonus: "Art of Chocolate" shop across the street!

This is my one of my favorite hotels in beautiful Florence. While right in the middle of the city center, you enter from a somewhat concealed courtyard. It suddenly seems like a haven of quiet amidst the hectic hustle of tourists just around the corner. When I first walked in through the doors, I was struck immediately by the beautifully balanced contrast between ancient and modern. Straight in front is a comfortable sitting area by a fireplace. To the left is the modern reception desk, and to the right is a beautiful stone wall with painted coats of arms. I turned and walked down a stone-wall hallway to the right, and entered into an elevator from the future. I really love all of the attention to detail that has been put into this hotel, from the glass stairwell, beautiful mirrors, tasteful art and stunning chandeliers in many rooms all over the building. There was a feeling of simple elegance I felt everywhere in the hotel. The (4-post) bed made my girlfriend squeal with delight, and I loved the bathroom door, with an etched architectural image. Even the sink was gorgeous. Where does it end? Don't even get me started on the breakfast. Mmmmm… I digress. If you're having meetings or a workshop here, you'll love the beautiful conference room, filled with natural light, abutting the stone tower that stands next to/as part of the hotel. There was a beautiful sitting room, that could be cordoned off (upon request) for small private gatherings. The restaurant/bar was as tranquil and classy as the rest of the hotel, with more natural light streaming in through the large windows onto the plush seating. Consider making arrangements to eat here when you book your room(s) for a discount. On top of it all the staff is friendly, knowledgeable and more than helpful.Recommended for:History Buffs
