- Hotel Commonwealth
A superior property, located smack in Kenmore square. The rooms are large and well-decorated (Kandinsky rather than generic landscapes), and there are four types to choose from: the Junior Suites are plenty huge, with a curtain to separate part of the space into a living room. So many different and surprising facilities are built into the hotel, too, from the oyster bar to the art/photo gallery. For me, the standout feature is the service. The staff here is phenomenally kind, generous, relaxed and very willing to go out of their way to accommodate you. There’s none of that stiffness you often find in the workers of even the nicest hotels, and that was very refreshing. The only thing about this place that didn’t blow me away was the gym, which was an adequate size but nothing to write home about. But you’d be a fool if you passed on this great hotel just because of that.

The Hotel Commonwealth is stunning. The lobby has some pretty cool high back chairs, which should make you feel like the King of England when you sit on them. The rest of the lobby is equally ornate. While the lobby is lovely, the rooms are what I found to be the most attractive part of the hotel. They could be the largest hotel rooms in the city, but they still have an intimate feel to them. They also do a fine job of balancing old school style with the latest technology. Antique-looking dressers hide flatscreen HDTVs, for example. If you’re struggling to find something on TV, each room has a DVD player and access to a DVD library in the lobby. If you’re more into reading, each room has a handful of books in it. Each room also has a variety of plugs for cellphones or other devices, so weary travelers can charge their equipment without tearing through their luggage. The only problem I had with the hotel? The bottled water they have on-hand didn’t taste too great.
Dining options at Hotel Commonwealth include a restaurant and a bar/lounge. Room service is available 24 hours a day. Recreational amenities include a health club and a fitness facility. This 4.0 star property has a 24 hour business center and offers small meeting rooms and audio visual equipment. Complimentary wireless and wired high speed Internet access is available in public areas. This Boston property has event space consisting of banquet facilities, conference/meeting rooms, and a ballroom. Wedding services and tour/ticket assistance are available. Guest parking is available for a surcharge. Additional property amenities include a coffee shop/café, valet parking, and a concierge desk. This is a smoke free property.
