This hotel is smack in the middle of a bustling neighborhood full of restaurants and glass shops (including my favorite one on the corner, two blocks towards the water from the hotel, that sells tiny little glass figurines). Directly inside the doors of the hotel is a strange, beautiful marble water feature, leading up stairs to the lobby, which feels oddly low and flat in comparison to the grandeur of the fountain. Then again, I like that the lounge/bar area adjacent to the lobby is cozy and intimate. When I visited, most of the other clients were my parents or grandparents’ age, which seemed like a good sign that the spot is consistent and high quality. And indeed, the superior room was aptly named. Beautifully decorated in classic Venetian style (which I’m realizing is my favorite design philosophy), the room also had a safe, mini bar, free wireless Internet, and – the best of all – complimentary slippers. I would definitely return, especially if I were on a trip with my parents. (Note: Twenty of the rooms have a view of the basilica, and two have a terrace. If you want those features, ask for ‘em.)

This hotel is such a classy blend of modern/stylish and classic Venetian luxury. It’s right amidst the rush of Venice daily life, but the second I walked in the doors, I felt like I'd entered into a spa. The sounds of Italy were suddenly shut out and replaced by the calming sounds of a tiered fountain in the entry room. The staff was exuberantly helpful and friendly. The food was beautiful. The lounging room was plush. And the view alone is worth the cost of a room: a MAGNIFICENT panorama of St. Mark’s Square and more church tops than I could count. I’ve been in two rooms here, and they were both fantastic and almost as different as they could be. One was truly Venetian, seemingly steeped in traditional style, including the amazingly marbled bathroom. The other one seemed modern style (art deco?). The bathroom here was one of my favorite parts. It was covered in luminescent glittery golden tiles. Both times, I was completely surprised when I walked in the room and absorbed the change of feel. Also of note: I love this neighborhood. So lively. So fun. So Italy.Recommended for:Luxury Travelers
