I hate it when hostels call themselves hotels – this is a hostel. But it’s a lovely one, and with rooms from $24 a night and a free breakfast, free wifi, cheap pizza, massive social area and countless events, who can honestly complain? The hotel is called “budget accommodation” for a reason - if your shower leaks a little or the kitchen gets grubby after the ninth dinner is made, you can be annoyed but not agitated. Veteran backpackers will adore the place, it’s extremely social and right next to the Queen Victoria Markets for the beaten up charm to which budget travellers swarm. For what some call the cheapest bed in the CBD, there’s really nothing to complain about.Recommended for:

As far as hostels go, I've seen better and I've seen worse. Hotel Discovery gets points in my book for having tons of common space and being very conducive for meeting new people and hanging out with large groups of friends. There are computers and free Wi-Fi in the main lounge area, a cafe with cheap eats and even travel agents onsite to help you plan the next leg of your journey. The hostel is also very close to the Victorian Markets, which I think is a major plus for anyone looking to experience all Melbourne has to offer. A few negatives I’d say are that the only place to secure your luggage is in the downstairs common area (which means trekking up and down if you need to get anything from your bag) and that the rooms are definitely nothing special. Still, it’s cheap and convenient.Recommended for:
