A Joie de Vivre property, Hotel Erwin oozes hip beachfront boutique hotel. It's one of the few places in the area that is just steps away from famed Venice Beach, where you'll find street entertainers, an eclectic beach scene and lots of fun dining options.
The rooftop lounge, High, offers a cool and trendy scene, with beautiful views of the ocean and funky murals of the surrounding area. The cocktails are nicely crafted. Try to head here early to grab a table - otherwise the wait can be long and you'll only be able to stand around.
The rooms are beach contemporary, with balconies that look out to the ocean. They really think of everything when it comes to items you can purchase from their honor bar. They even have a selection of sunglasses that you can use during your stay and buy if you like them.
There's also a cool little cafe next to the lobby called Barlo, which offers home-style cooking for breakfast and dinner.
I'll definitely stay here again!Recommended for:

Right in the heart of venice, this gorgeous hotel has ocean front views and the most beautiful rooftop bar. One of the top hotels in all of venice for great reason. Walking distance to tons of bars, shops, and the beach!Recommended for:

The Erwin Hotel of LA has one of the greatest views of Venice beach. The location couldn't get any better for being a central location for exploring the area. The friendly staff was more than helpful with getting us situated and extremely knowledgeable of the "hot spots" to check out.
The room was in perfect condition, you could smell the fresh sheets the second you walked in. The sleek modern furniture was not only comfortable, but also stylish. They had the most interesting selection in the minibar along with a basket full of goodies. From chocolate covered gummy bears to sleep aid pills; they thought of everything needed to make sure you have a relaxing care free stay.
The bar/lounge on the roof top had the most incredible view of the beach, seeing the sunset from up here is an absolute must! The food and drinks were good, but I would suggest coming early and securing a seat before it gets too busy.
The hotel offers a one time fee parking for your stay, I would recommend taking advantage of this rather than trying to find street parking. The meters in the area are 1 hour limit, so you will need to keep running back to apply more time.
Overall the Erwin Hotel is my go to choice for staying in Venice and I will be staying here again ever time I visit the area.

I attended an event here a couple years ago, and had a great time. The party took over the valet area, the lobby, and the rooftop lounge. The food from the hotel's restaurant, Barlo, was delicious and the staff did an excellent job. I was lucky enough to win a 2 night stay at that event, and so I finally had a little "staycation" here with friends last December. The rooms aren't huge, but they are nicely decorated and had fun features. We were upgraded to the 2nd best level of suites, and we had the most gorgeous view of the ocean and the Venice boardwalk. My one gripe was the bathroom was not great. In a suite, I would expect a large bathroom with a shower and tub. We only had a large shower, and the drain wasn't working properly at first. But this was quickly taken care of by the hotel management. Overall, I had a great time and it was fun to be only steps from all the nightlife and restaurants in Venice.

Erwin is one of the best hip hotels with a superb rooftop bar on the artistic boardwalk in Venice Beach. Its somewhat trendy rooms are relatively modern, furnished with inexpensive furniture, and feature basic bathrooms that are dated/unpleasant. The bathrobes are designed with tiger prints on a cheap fabric. The rooftop bar offers good cocktails, stunning ocean/city views, and remarkable sunsets. The noise from the street and hallway is disturbing, and the compulsory $25 per day valet unpleasant. The service is average, and the paid internet extremely slow.Recommended for:

If you want to plop down in the middle of the Venice Beach scene, Hotel Erwin is your spot. It embodies a cool beach atmosphere. The rooms are designed to properly infuse modern and retro beach vibes. It has the highest rooftop lounge on the boardwalk (called High), but if you want to enjoy the views make sure you make a reservation in advance, because the locals love this place too. We say go for it.

The rooftop is a cool place to hang out and people watch. It's a hip and trendy beach hotel and just right by the Venice boardwalk. I recommend this place as the best hotel to stay at if you are visiting Venice.Recommended for:

Reasons to stay here:
Great sunset views
Steps from the beach

Trendy and Stylish!
Comfort, food, service, and location might be the top things you're looking for in a hotel and I believe Hotel Erwin can check those off of your list.
Comfort: I was able to see 3 showcased rooms. The first room was on the 5th floor, with a large high ceiling living room, and bar. It had a balcony with a view of the Ocean street, which was pretty nice, but I don't think I prefer this room as much. But I especially liked the Premier Ocean View King room. It had a balcony with chairs to lounge on where you can view the ocean. The bed was very comfy and had a nice flat, 42 inch tv! And lastly, I was able to enjoy the luxury of being in the Dogtown Sweet. Wet bar, views of Venice's beach, A Wii to play with and a super comfy round couch. I believe this couch was a substitute for the real bed, being that all the rooms were showcased. But if the bed is as comfy as that couch, then I imagine the bed being more comforting.
Food: Okay, you HAVE to, I repeat, HAVE to eat at their restaurant, Hash. I was able to sample their Ahi on Daikon and its to die for! I swear it was the best thing I ate there that night. Plus their drinks, especially the margaritas, are delicious.
Service: I want to give this place a 5 stars! I was lost getting here. I confused Santa Monica's Pacific street versus Venice's Pacific Street. I have no idea why two cities that are so close together have similar street names. I called the hotel and they easily directed me to their hotel. And right when I got there the valet guys were such sweet hearts, opening our doors and telling me where to go to the bathroom. Throughout the night all the servers were attentive, never leaving me empty handed and making sure I was okay.
And lastly, Location! HELLO we are in VENICE and RIGHT BY the beach! That itself says it all. You don't come to Venice and not go to the beach.
If I ever need a place to stay in Venice.. Hotel Erwin will definitely be the place to be!Recommended for:

Hotel Erwin is a cool, hip, laid back boutique hotel. High Rooftop Bar is a cool place to lounge and watch the SoCal sunset. They have a small gym on the first floor, but who needs the gym when the Venice boardwalk is close by.
Their Dog Town Suite is a cool place to have a small party. I've stayed in one of their regular rooms and I've learned it's not conducive for a good night's sleep when I woke up early in the morning because there was a production company filming in the alley. Their walls are also pretty thin because you can hear people passing by in the hallways.
I would rather park my vehicle than use their valet. The last time I was here, I witnessed their valet damage a vehicle. Not good.

From the outside looking in, it seems like it would be a really cool beach side hotel, hip, cool and a really good time, especially for a younger customer. However I found that I was very disappointed in the quality of.... everything! Matter of fact my favorite space on the property was the seating area in the driveway. Yes IN THE DRIVEWAY. The lobby was extremely small. I don't even know if it can be called a lobby. It was more of a banquette seat along the only wall of the space. The guest rooms were a decent size, however the decor left much to be desired. The vibe was less cool, contemporary or modern and more HGTV Design on a Dime. As far as the gym, it is literally an extra room in the back that looks like it should have boilers and other HVAC stuff in it, not work out equipment. This whole hotel gets a disappointing 1 star. I felt like I was in a hostel, not a cool beach side hotel

Very Venice Beach chic. Great location on the beach. 5 things you'll love about the Erwin:
1. The beach (no brainer)
2. On the boardwalk
3. Great photos and art EVERYWHERE
4. The Roof top lounge with the killer view
5. The staff
They don't have a pool but the location makes up for it. I grew up in LA and seen many bars and lounges. The Erwin's rooftop lounge has the best view by far. Get some drinks then go for a stroll on the beach. I'm looking forward to sharing this spot with friends. It can get congested during rush hours but other than that you will love this spot.

I did not stay here but I came here for an event that was set up more or less like a preview of the hotel, with appetizers and cocktails downstairs outside of the lobby with full access to a demo room and the rooftop. Unfortunately it was pitch dark when we got to the roof, otherwise it would have been a SPECTACULAR view.
The room was nothing super special with state of the art amenities, however it was very clean and contemporary feeling. The entire staff was super friendly and I even was able to chat and hang out with the executive chef of the restaurant downstairs.
If given a chance, such as a staycation, I would consider this hotel for a stay.
