This is a luxury and impressive hotel, situated In Lido of Venice island. During the cinema festival in September this hotel becomes crowded of VIPs, actors, producers. The building is really interesting with arabesque towers and a balcony directly connected to the beach, organized with small and very comfortable ' chalets' and white beach beds....really luxurious....remembering old times when Zthe Lido of Venice was a really exclusive island.

Boldly opulent, a little bit flashy, and more modern than the neighboring Hotel Des Bains, The Excelsior is an incredibly luxurious beach resort on the Lido, where the normal poolside look includes lots of big diamonds, leopard prints, and Reagan-esque Coppertone tans. The Excelsior is an incredibly plush and comfortable resort, but it lacks the style of some of the other great Venetian hotels.

The Excelsior would be the perfect place to host a lavish destination wedding or rich uncle’s decadent birthday party. Guests can stay in the very nice (though otherwise kind of unremarkable) rooms on one side of the hotel, and they can party in one of the stunningly awesome spaces on the other side: coffee on the veranda overlooking the ocean, perhaps? Or a big dinner in the “stucci” room (which apparently was featured in the movie “Once Upon a Time”, with ornate ceilings and wood floors and huge windows looking out – yes – to the ocean. Or maybe they’ll lounge around the pool – or race each other by diving from tile platforms made just for that. There’s a formal restaurant, an art deco style bar that opens onto a large seaside veranda, private cabanas lining the beach, multiple balconies with increasingly stunning views… there’s even a beauty parlor, a toy store, and a number of boutiques on the ground level. Secluded, massive, and elegant in an understated way, this feels like the type of place celebrities would go for a private get-away – and, in fact, the hotel hosts a famous film festival every September. Though Venice is only a 30-minute boat ride away, it’s hard to imagine a reason anyone would need – or even want – to leave the property once they get there. You can even have your own fireworks show, launched from the hotel’s private pier. It really is like a magical Moorish castle served up with Italian upperclass style. Stunning. Just make sure you pad your bank account before you arrive. This is the kind of place that charges 20 Euros for two coffees and a bottled water.

The Excelsior (a former Westin hotel), is a lavish dream come true. This hotel must have some kind of history because it’s written on the walls. I hear they host a wild film festival here and I saw the room they show the films in: a rich, red colored room with a massive movie screen that I can imagine Ava Gabor and Cary Grant sitting in – and then drinking martinis and smoking cigarettes in the hotel bar after the screening. The ocean view is endless, and so seem some of the indoor spaces. After staying at hotels in Venice, this really felt like a resort, an escape, a get-away. A Mediterranean experience of relaxation along the beach, walking on the sand amongst millions of beautiful seashells – and then coming back to a sunlit deck where I could drink Pellegrino before taking the free water taxi onto Venice for dinner and back.Recommended for:History Buffs
