A slightly dated hotel, this is nevertheless and fairly solid mid-range place to stay with the added plus of breakfast on the roof terrace with great views of Hagia Sophia and the Blue Mosque. As mentioned, the décor feels a bit old-fashioned but it’s generally clean and well-kept throughout. The hotel is in a quiet spot overlooking a small square but very close to all the sights of old Istanbul such as the Grand Bazaar.

Hali Hotel delivers what it promises by its assertive façade. Though not on par with the charm of a genuinely historic building, Hali Hotel has an antiquarian aura – the colour palette ranges from dark brown to beige, the dusty elevator is like a 30s movie space cabin and the rooms have an interesting touch of style – they are as if cropped from the 80s or something.

The hotel terrace has a good view, the location is very central and most importantly, unlike with many hotels in this part of the town, you can enjoy tranquillity in any of Hali Hotel’s rooms. The building is quite removed from the touristy hurdle and the traffic jams of Sultanahmet roads.

If nothing else, the terrace restaurant, where breakfast is served, and which is open until the evening hours for refreshments, gives this hotel a jump over the competition. The views from above are breathtaking…looking out over the Hagia Sofia, the Blue Mosque and the Sea of Marmara. In the evening, the lights of the Bosphorus put on a nice show to have a drink with. In addition to the rooftop, the hotel itself is a big, old hotel, but restored well, so that everything is in good condition. The room was nice, with simple furnishings. Off of the lobby there is a small bar and a store for those last minute gifts, and they can schedule a massage for you for an extra fee.

Overall, I liked the Hali Hotel. It has an antique feel and it is nicely tucked away behind all of the main historical sites of the old city. It is nice to be in a hotel slightly away from the busy streets of Sultanahmet. The lobby has an old timey feel with the walls lined with wood framing. The rooms are clean and continue the antique vibe of the lobby- wooden bed frames and dark colored textiles. I liked that the terrace had a view of the Haghia Sophia. During the warm Spring and Summer months, it would be the perfect place to unwind after a busy day of sightseeing!

Absolutely perfect location within easy walking distance of all of old Istanbuls sights. Just a block off the main drag across from a small park, it is clean, quiet and not in your face. The view from their rooftop terrace/breakfast room is spectacular and prices quite affordable. If I were to return to Istanbul, I would book here without
hesitation and I don't usually stay in the same hotels when I travel as
love hotels and spend a great deal of time researching them.
