There aren't a lot of options for budget hotels in downtown Washington. The Hotel Harrington is very well located, close to the National Mall and the usual D.C. tourist stops. It's big with families and student groups, since some of the hotel's rooms will sleep six or seven. It's a no frills, bare bones kind of place, but the management is unapologetic. If it was all gussied up, it would cost more!
Harry's Bar and Harriet's Family Restaurant are in the hotel. Harry's Bar attracts locals in the daytime, while the restaurant is often awash in little kids during the summer months.
Given the dearth of budget choices, I'd book early if you are coming during the tourist season – which pretty much starts in late February and goes until August.

This economy hotel has a great location – whether you are checking out Smithsonian buildings, shopping at Macy's or headed to the Verizon Center for a game. It's a good compromise spot if your family and friends all want to do something different.
That said, this is not the place to be if anyone in your party wants frills. The building is tired, and the rooms are spare. The main reason to be here is price, and location.
For quick, take out food, try the Pret A Manger up the street. We became familiar with the chain when we were looking for cheap eats in astronomically-priced London. The sandwiches and wraps aren't bad.Recommended for:Family Travelers

This is another one of those "glory days gone by" hotels, that still lives on its legend. The place hasn't seen a facelift in what seems like decades, but you can tell that this was once tres chique. Luckily the management realize this, and the price they ask for a room is more than OK. Location is absolutely central and in the heart of where you might wish to be as a tourist. Price/quality relationship is just fine, and everything is clean, albeit a bit worn down. But just for the location, I'd recommend.
