We like the Kabuki as a budget hotel for San Francisco for several reasons, including its location (in the heart of Japantown, outside the craziness of downtown), its serene Japanese-inspired spa and springs, and its exceedingly good value. Add in cleanliness, a Tokyo-style chic lounge and restaurant, and a peaceful koi pond, and the atmosphere is complete.Recommended for:

I was brought here on a surprise birthday trip. I had mentioned that if I could go anywhere, I'd love to be in a Japanese garden and just relax. This place was perfect! We stayed in a suite that had its own SAUNA in the room! Seriously? Does it get better than that? Loved being right next to the Japanese market and the views from the roof were great too! I would definitely recommend staying here.Recommended for:

This is a nice hotel in Japantown, that provides excellent access to shopping in the Kinokuniya Building, as well as the neighborhoods that border this area. Fillmore Street, in particular, has great shopping. The rooms are authentically Japanese, and the service is good.

As someone who lived out of hotels about 8 days a month for 4 years, I KNOW hotels. The Kabuki is a choice you will not regret. The rooms are CLEAN , the decor is tranquil and amazing, and you get admission to the spa Kabuki a block away to enjoy the hot pools / cold plunge / sauna / steam room. So ... with every stay ... plan on doing at least a 2 hour ( mine is more like 3 hours ) ritual at the spa. I just can't say enough good things about this place. I've been here about 5 times total and it's been spot on every time.
There is also the Kabuki movie theatre a half block away to catch a flick and relax even MORE!

Hotel Kabuki is close to Japantown and within walking distance of the Civic Center and the Performing Arts Center. The interiors are comfortable and decorated as a Western-Japan fusion design. The rates are reasonable.

If you're planning on staying here, make sure you do it with people you're really comfortable with, because THERE ARE NO DOORS TO THE SHOWER (only a door for the toilet). The shower head shot needles of water into your skin, a very unpleasant experience.
The room itself looked old and dingy, and the balcony, while nice views, is shared with neighbors, so if you've got a rowdy bunch next to you, beware!
I will say, there is convenient overnight parking for relatively cheap, which is like finding gold in SF.
Would not recommend, nor will ever stay here again.

We needed a place to stay in Japantown after a long day at Tomales Bay Oyster Company and a soon to be long night at Yoshi's. I found a great rate for Hotel Kabuki online ($89!) for a Corner King Room!
The lobby has been recently renovated and is a nice balance of modern sleek and Asian decor. There's a Japanese garden directly outside the lobby and the building is connected to the Japanese Center Mall. As for our room, we liked it a lot. Loved the double screen doors that covered the patios and the color tones were great. We were also a big fan of the bathroom/shower with the Japanese soaking tub and bath salts (even comes with instructions on how to traditionally bath--Nihon style!)
Bed was super comfy and huge--I could have lounged in it all day to watch the Super Bowl! Definitely worth the price for the convenience and comfort.

Kabuki offers a comfortable stay with charming character. The décor is an artistic fusion of Eastern and Western cultures. The room is nice and slightly noisy (by the street). The service is consistently good. The Japan center/mall is nearby while the Union Square, shops and key attractions are about 15mins on foot. Internet wi-fi was complementary, but parking overpriced. It is a pleasant retreat.

We stayed for a conference. Nice facility and seemed recently rmodeled though a little worn around the edges. Rooms were nice size and well appointed. Located in the middle of Japantown and on the major bus routes so easy to get out and explore the city
