- Hotel Lindrum
The Lindrum Hotel, named for the Lindrum Billiard Center that was once housed in this historic building, is a boutique hotel that is worth checking out if you can manage to snag one of the only 59 rooms. The downstairs area is replete with unique touches that are at once cozy and luxurious. From the working fireplace to a pool table that dates back to the 1970s, there’s no mistaking this place for one of the faceless 5-star hotel chains, though the Lindrum feels just as lavish. The standard rooms seem much larger than the 25 meters that we were told that they are. One downside is that despite the hotel’s central location, it doesn’t have the terrific views of some of the nearby high-rise hotels. There’s also no gym or pool on-site, though guests are able to take advantage of the Sofitel’s facilities right up the street for no extra charge. If you are looking for something a little different, I would definitely recommend the Lindrum.Recommended for:

The enchanting nature of the Lindrum’s decor cannot be overstated. Winner of the AHA Victoria Boutique Style Accommodation of the Year (in 2010), the heritage-listed building feels at once Victorian and modern. It has been a 19th century tea and coffee manufacturer, a newspaper office and a billiards hall – think of the charm of all of these locations rolled into one and you might start to get an idea of just how loveable this small hotel is.
A bar, restaurant and pool hall bleed into each on the first floor, and the latter is classy as all hell. The rooms themselves are lovely – I stayed in the Queen Deluxe room which is 29 square metres but felt like 40 due to the open layout and hardwood floors. I’ve never stayed anywhere that made a room feel so big. There’s free wifi, 24 hour room service and is located on a quiet part of Flinders Street yet is still very central. I’m having difficulty putting into words just how amazing this little hotel is, but if I were to settle on a descriptor, I’d say ‘hypnotic.’ I am completely under the spell of the Hotel Lindrum.

This is a charming heritage boutique hotel. The location is great, being in the CBD but not right on a main drag. Handy walking distance to all the city attractions.
The hotel is lovely, however being small and boutique you don't get as many amenities as the major hotels.
