Fantastic luxury boutique hotel situated very conveniently to public transport and has chef David Machado's 3rd restaurant right on site. Between inspired French and Italian cuisine, luxurious pillow top beds, and beautiful art, Hotel Modera is definitely a hotel I'd highly recommend to anyone visiting the city of roses (aka Portland)Recommended for:Luxury Travelers

This hotel is a great place to stay in SW Portland. It is very modern and nice accomodations. I really like the courtyard with fire pits and occasional live muscians. It is a convenient location for walking around or taking the public transportation, and very reasonably priced.

A modern hotel for a modern era. In fact, that’s how the concierge told me they got their name: Mod-Era = Modera. The artwork is mesmerizing, the garden with fire pits and a “living wall” are intriguing and the young concierges are all really attractive (and that was just what I could see from the lobby!) The rooms themselves don’t disappoint; they are chic and tastefully decorated to keep in line with the modern theme including: nude art, a zebra throw blanket, and unfoggable bathroom mirrors. The hotel restaurant is the yummy Nel Centro with Italian and French cuisine and live Jazz on the weekends. It’s close to all the Downtown sites and because of the location in downtown Portland, it’s in the public transit’s “free zone” and great for those without a car who are tired of walking. The only negative I noticed were some stuck-up hotel residents, but you’re there for yourself, not them.

In the southern end of downtown Portland, near Portland State University, Hotel Modera is an unpretentious, modern hotel with really friendly staff. The architecture of this boutique hotel has an early-1960s look to it (mid-century modern as they call it) with interiors to match. There’s a large outdoor patio that makes it an incredibly attractive summer option and the rooms are simple yet stylish. Some of the cool things that set this hotel apart (beside the genuinely cool, unpretentious staff, that is) include anti-fog mirrors (perhaps one of the most brilliant inventions I’ve ever come across) and bags of ice in the place of notoriously noisy ice machines in the hallways. There’s no gym onsite, but they do give guests free passes to 24 Hour Fitness, just a block away.

Located just off the main downtown area, Hotel Modera is a modern trendy boutique hotel in which you could imagine seeing Andy Warhol sitting in the lobby on an uncomfortable fifties low back chair.
Not situated in a particularly attractive building (this whole area was rebuilt in the fifties and sixties), the hotel's large lobby looks more like an office lobby in a downtown high-rise and as such does not convey intimacy or comfort.
Having said that, the hotel rooms are very comfortable with all the modern amenities you would expect from a boutique hotel. The staff is excellent and really seems to care about making your stay as comfortable as possible - that is very attractive!
This hotel would not be my first choice to stay in downtown Portland. However with its reasonable room pricing and comfort, its easy location to the main downtown area, and its proximity to Portland State University and the Keller Auditorium, it has a lot to offer.Recommended for:Trendsters
