The first view of Hotel Monaco isn't impressive, but I was happy to see that the inside is nicer looking than the shabby awning outside. Some highlights: animal print robes and window seats in the river view rooms. Rooms are on the small side, and the decor is pretty busy, which makes them feel even smaller. I didn't feel relaxed there. On the upside, it's a great location. Right across the street is the Emerald Loop, an inexpensive Irish Pub with good food.

A luxury-boutique hotel, Hotel Monaco flashes some old-timey class that will charm guests. Not to say that the hotel is outdated; it merely takes an interesting, updated approach to retro styling. Photos of a flapper and an Audrey Hepburn-like gal are rendered in florescent colors. The area also places visitors smack-dab between nightlife-friendly River North, and the shopping- and business-centric Loop. Basically, you can go to a business meeting or shop at Macy’s, and then grab dinner at Naha at night. And you should, because Naha is an absolutely amazing, Michelin-starred restaurant—thought the area isn’t short on great restaurants.

I stayed here for a couple nights a while back and I was not as impressed as I thought I would be. Although it is very nice and the view from my room was stellar, I really didn't appreciate the brusque service that I encountered at the reception desk. I understand she might've just been having a bad day or whatever so nothing against her and I didn't have any other service mishaps over the course of my stay.
One of the highlights of the room was the window seat, it was very nice to sit there after a day of meetings and take in the lake.

I've been traveling to Chicago for work quite a few times each year for the past 3 years, and I call Hotel Monaco my Chicago home. The rooms are spacious (enough to use the free yoga kit), the beds are comfortable, and the staff is super friendly. There are cute little sitting nooks at the windows, and they do turndown service with chocolates on your pillow. As an InTouch member, I sometimes get nice little upgrades or special amenities during my stay. They once left me a pet goldfish to keep me company!
