The Monaco charmed me the moment I stepped into its foyer. The entrance is dramatic without being pretentious; the highlight is a Venetian-style mural on the ceiling, with cozy chairs and inviting writing tables below. The guest rooms are no less stylish with a mix of prints and styles that work together exquisitely. It’s also located within two historic building so the ceilings are incredibly high, only adding to its charm. Beyond the look, the rooms are very comfortable, and include luxurious amenities and details like your own goldfish upon request (in case you’re missing your pet). The Monaco also is home to one of the best Italian restaurants in town—Panzano—which has a mouth-watering menu, and hosts a mean happy hour to boot. To top it off, the hotel is in a great downtown location, a block from 16th Street Mall, and within easy walking distance to many of Denver’s best attractions. What can I say? Without a doubt, the Monaco is tops in my book.

Service is the strongest feature of Kimpton hotels, and the Monaco in downtown Denver is no exception. Whether you are arriving, departing, or returning from exploring, the staff jumps to anticipate your needs. The Monaco is located in a great historic building. The leopard prints in the rooms are over the top, but wine hour in the lobby, being pet friendly (have a goldfish delivered to your room), plus the additional perks of being part of Klimpton's reward program make for an enjoyable stay.

I'm a sucker for the Kimpton hotels, and really enjoyed my stay here. If you've been to one of the other Monaco hotels from them (SF, Chicago, etc.) then you know exactly what the decor will be. Lovely hotel, great service, and I would gladly stay here again.

The Monaco was actually one of the first hotels I visited in Denver, and is still one of my favorites. There are several downtown hotels that occupy grand historic buildings, but none capture the charm and class of their settings as well as the Monaco. The lobby alone is a work of art, with its soaring ornately-painted ceiling and welcoming armchairs. The rooms are no less appealing; I especially love the high ceilings, a throw-back to the days when hotels didn’t try to squeeze rooms into every last inch of space. That leaves room for tall windows and great oversized headboards. The colors are rich maroons, browns, ivory and gold, with a whimsical flairs here and there, like a heifer-print bed runner and zebra-print bathrobes. Bathrooms are small--goes with the territory in these old buildings--but warm and well appointed. And if you’re traveling alone, the hotel will put a fishbowl and goldfish in your room--because everyone can use some companionship, one staff member told me. Definitely plan on a meal or happy hour at Panzano, the hotel restaurant and one of the best Italian joints in town.

The Denver Monaco is one of the older Kimptons I've stayed at. The beds were comfortable as usual, but they haven't done much else to really update the decor. The rooms are spacious though, and the location is great - just a few blocks walking distance to the 16th St. Promenade. The fitness center is spacious, but nothing special.
Addendum: The Monaco Denver was recently renovated December 2010. When we stayed here, I wasn't all that impressed with the decor, but the new renovations look amazing. http://www.lifeissuite.com/2011/02/hotel-monaco-denver-guest-rooms-get-a-stunning-redesign/
