There's still a reluctance to just show it like it is. It's way better than it was in the 90's when it was still getting over being a Soviet museum. There still is a solemnity about it that I think shouldn't be there any more. It's still evolving.

While the Tretyakov Museum is known for its exclusive Russian artistic works, the Pushkin Arts Museum is dedicated to foreign art (much of the art was seized by the brutal communist government from private Russian citizens during the lawless days of the communists) of the Enlightenment period up to the Impressionists and post-Impressionists.

Impressive building from the outside although it is supposedly a modern reconstruction. Due to time constraints I didn't venture inside and can't comment on that.

This is a quintessential tourist stop. This is just outside the walls of the Kremlin in what used to be the moat. It's a beautiful park area, and it's all set up for tourists from all over the world. Once again, I wouldn't go there at night, simply because you won't get good photos.

The House of Unions was constructed in the first half of the 18th century and later on, it was bought by Moscow nobles. It was here that the Liberator Tsar, Alexander II, gave a speech before the nobles informing them of Russia's need to abolish serfdom. And a few years later, Tsar Alexander II did just that by liberating the ...

I'm not sure what to say, actually. As a monument, it's impressive. Whether or not you share the ideological inflection (and I imagine most of us don't), it's a curious thing to see. Most of us don't admire ancient Egyptian slavery either, but we marvel at the Sphinx.

I went to see it every day, just for those beautiful colors. You can take a tour of the interior, too (I believe it was pretty cheap to do so). Part of it was under construction when I went. Understandable, considering its age.

In day time, it's a wonderful place. And in night time, it's totally different. There's not any light on the building, it depends on the reflection of the lights on the Bridge. I felt like in heaven.

Of course you should go to Lenin's tomb, just for cultural awareness and whatnot. When I went in 1974 the line wrapped all the way around the Kremlin. It's probably shorter now, but still expect a line. The waxy-looking figure in the tomb is pretty creepy.

You just can't go to Russia or most of Eastern Europe without visiting a public bath house. These places are tradition and this one is so beautiful that it still looks like it's only for royalty. It's the precursor to the modern spa, and it's a great place to go and experience true Russian tradition. Just make sure that someone ...
