The Hotel Nelligan is right in the heart of Old Montreal, with old world charm and service. The 6 story building is brick with a nice facade, and the interior has been remodeled with washed brick and wood accents. The rooms are decent sized and furnished handsomely with understated luxury. There is a small bar and dining, and most room rates come with breakfast included. You'll pay about $175 to $250 depending on room and season. You can step outside and walk the quaint narrow streets with their shops, bistros and drinking establishments.

Situated in the heart of Montreal’s Old Port, Hotel Nelligan is a chic boutique hotel with some incredible food options. Sandwiched between two opposing culinary styles, on the one side is Verses, a fine French cuisine and on the other side, Mechant Boeuf for a high end burger or eclectic menu. The hotel itself has that Old Port quality of exposed stone and minimalist decor which is part of the appeal of this no frills spot, however, whatever you might be lacking in terms of facilities are offered through local partnerships with gyms and spas, especially with the hotel Place D’Armes as both share the same owner. The rooftop terrace is an amazing place for a sunny day cocktail in Montreal, and is a choice location for networking events and corporate cocktails during the summer. If you enjoy a cool hotel for leisure travel, the Nelligan is definitely worth checking out.

Ce fut un grand vaisseau, taillé dans l'or massif, ses mats touchait l'azure sur des mer inconnu...
We had to memorize this poem in Grade 7 French Class written by a poet who was writing about his descent into insanity. So it's a little daring that this hotel dared to dedicate their property to his namesake. Although Nelligan was a prolific writer, this iconic poem was also alluded to in the Hotel shop's name "Le Vaisseau D'Or".
The hotel itself is nice and quaint, a welcome player in Old Montreal. The front staff are funny for their humility, staring at my friend strangely because of the length of his stay, and their insistence that the nice hotel rooms "aren't really that nice".
The rates are high but can come down quite a bit in the Winter time, where it would not be a bad place to stay.
