This hotel definitely has an Asian aesthetic - sleek and full of elegant simplicity. the location is great, just steps from Union Square and all the shops. It's also not far from public transportation for when you want to head out for a less touristy atmosphere. The best part of the hotel though are the people manning the concierge desk. Most concierge desks seem to only tell you about main tourist destinations that you can read about anywhere and they always seemed rushed to help the next person. The concierges here took their time in talking to me and even provided information on things off the tourist track like the Alameda Flea market.

The Nikko Hotel of San Francisco is one of the many upscale big hotels in downtown San Francisco, grouped around Union Square. Among other ones I have seen, I would say that this one has something more with a beautiful, streamlined look and japanese aesthetics. My room was spacious enough and had a majestuous bathroom, the view was blocked by the building in front though. The Nikko Hotel is situated on Mason street, just near the central Powell subway station but also near some Tenderloin creepy streets. The hotel as a nice restaurant (Anzu) and impressive amenities (swimming pool, spacious bar, grand piano among other things). I recommend this place.

Although we all wanted to make it as a professional athlete, a vast majority of us unfortunately never made it into the big leagues. However, with Hotel Nikko, at least we can still sort of travel like them! When away professional sports teams stop into town for a game, some of them stay at Hotel Nikko and it is easy to see why.
Upon entry I was really overwhelmed by how large and glamorous the lobby was. In fact, almost everything in this hotel was huge. The gym had a ton of space and equipment, there was a sizable pool area, and the Anzu restaurant was open and elegant.
Unfortunately, for a hotel that has such extravagant amenities, their rooms with king-sized beds are pretty small...with the bed taking up most of the floor space. The rooms with two queen-sized beds had a bit more breathing room.

It's too bad that my experience with the Hotel Nikko has been limited (so far) to their Conference facilities of which my latest visit ended today. This is a nice Hotel and I think I've only scratched the surface of this place. The large ballroom facility was comfortable and with good acoustics and climate control. There was also a nice common area just outside the door for Exhibits. It also helped that the sponsors didn't skimp out on the Continental Breakfast, the Monday Lunch, and the Afternoon Snacks. My only regret is not wrapping some of it up and taking it home.
One of my running jokes with Gayle is the possibility that we should go "clubbing". A future overnight stay at the Nikko coupled with dinner at Anzu and a show at The Rrazz Room might be just the ticket......
