If I were getting away for a romantic tryst in Honolulu, I might choose Hotel Renew. A boutique hotel only a half-block from Waikiki Beach, it perfectly blends sleek and moody San Francisco with tropical, Asian-inspired Hawaiian tranquility. The hotel feels like a secret upscale sanctuary—a getaway from the brightness and crowds on the street, a place you could finish writing that novel, a deep-groove haven for meditation. Families with young children or couples looking for a resort experience probably will prefer to stay elsewhere—there’s no pool or restaurant, guest rooms are generally small and stark and the tone is set for the style connoisseur. High-floor rooms have good ocean or city views, and all feature touches such as shoji blackout screens, kimono-style bathrobes, free Wi-Fi, flat-screen TVs, crisp white linens and dark trimming.

Few Waikiki hotels are truly boutique, but the eco-conscious Hotel Renew fits the bill. Romantic, sleek and stylish, this low-rise hotel has only a few dozen rooms, some with ocean views (though the property is inland from the beach). Sweet staff act like your personal concierges, welcoming you with chilled drinks and available to help you plan your day. Drawbacks of staying here include no pool (though the beach is just a block away, so you might not mind) and expensive valet parking (no self-park).Recommended for:Trendsters

Hotel Renew is a tiny hotel located near the Honolulu zoo. It's lack of a pool, smaller rooms and contemporary decor make it not ideal for families. I stayed here for five nights in December at a rate of $200/night for two double beds. They will charge you $50 more per person after the second person.
The room we had smelled like body odor when we arrived, so we complained to the front desk. They offered to change the filter for the AC unit and suggested that we open a window. We just kept the windows open whenever we could to air out the room because they said they couldn't move us. Our hotel room window looked directly onto an outdoor walkway for a nearby apartment complex, so our view was of old, topless men sitting outside their rooms drinking. Parking is valet at $25 per 24 hour period with in and out privileges. We just parked at the zoo for $1 an hour.
The room itself was nice. The bed was fluffy and the bathroom was clean. I'm not sure if it's worth $200 a night, but I wouldn't mind staying there again based on the ease of parking for cheap at the zoo and its location a block from the beach.

Excellent service and helpful staff! It is an eco-friendly hotel, so it only has coolers in rooms, not refrigerators. Since I was breastfeeding, I requested for a fridge thru email to store my milk in properly. When I went to my room after checking in, the fridge was already there. Location is also very good, near the beach and Kalakaua Avenue where shopping and dining options abound. The free wifi and continental breakfast are also plus points.

This is a boutique hotel on the Diamond Head side of the Marriott Waikiki Beach Hotel. Not far from the beach, this tranquil hotel was a perfect home (and office) away from home for me. I really liked the complimentary wireless WiFi and was connected throughout the hotel. Liked the plush king size bed and comforter AND the a/c worked just fine.
Although they don't have a restaurant or room service, there's an ABC Store next door for late night snacks or last minute items. There are good food choices close by (walking distance). The hotel doesn't have a pool, but the beach is a block away.
Other than that, the staff was friendly and accommodating. The best thing, it's not a mega resort and didn't have to wait at all for the elevators, only 9 floors.

The restful, contemporary, Japanese-influenced design immediately made me feel warm, welcomed and soothed. The intimate, softly-lit lobby has a bar off to the side. The two areas are separated with an amazing, quietly-flowing, black stone fountain pool. Small but very well designed room with a smart layout using gray, black and white for the décor. There was an inviting and comfortable bed dressed in crisp white, a desk area with complimentary wireless internet access and a swing-out, wall-mounted flatscreen. This lower floor room had a small lanai but no views, seeing only neighboring buildings. There is also no pool or restaurant. But Waikiki beach is a short block away, with many eateries and shopping. Very friendly and accommodating staff. This is a subdued and relaxing place to stay, offering a more low-key environment in busy Waikiki.
Hotel Renew features complimentary morning coffee and pastries in the lobby, as well as complimentary newspapers. Complimentary Wi-Fi access is available throughout the hotel. Guest valet parking is available for a surcharge. Additional property amenities include concierge services. This is a smoke-free property. A total renovation of Hotel Renew was completed in 2007.
There are 72 guestrooms at Hotel Renew. Bathrooms feature shower/tub combinations, designer toiletries, bathrobes, and hair dryers. In addition to daily housekeeping, guestrooms offer direct dial phones with voice mail. High definition televisions have premium cable channels. Air conditioned rooms also include desks, electronic/magnetic keys, irons/ironing boards, and clock radios. Guests may request extra towels/bedding and wake up calls. Cribs (infant beds) are available on request. Guestrooms are all non smoking.
