Small, quaint, and conveniently located in the Union Square area, this classy boutique hotel is a perfect stop for history buffs and literary lovers. The best part? The Library Bar, a dimly lit, book-themed lounge area on the first floor. Added bonuses are free wi-fi, wine happy hour, and live music on weekends.

This is a GREAT boutique hotel! Very literary and very comfortable. Each floor has at the entrance of the elevator a literary quote and each room feels like the parlor of some of the great writers! The Hotel Rex is centrally located to most mass transit and city attractions. Great for families as well as single or couple travelers.Recommended for:Family Travelers

Entering this French Bohemian, arts+literary themed boutique hotel, you may be lucky enough to encounter the hotel dog, Maximo. Quite possibly the fattest, laziest pug I have ever come across...it never even twitched while sitting on a chair.
Anyways, Hotel Rex is a really cool hotel that has live jazz on Friday nights, wine tastings everyday from 5-6 pm, and hip loaner bikes that guests can borrow for free. Fashioned after the San Francisco arts+literary salons, there are paintings and quotes from books like "The Maltese Falcon" decorating the walls, as well as a "library bar" on the first floor.
For a small hotel, their rooms are pretty spacious and comfortable. It was definitely roomier then some of the more expensive, big hotels.
All in all, a pretty cool place to stay, especially for those literary buffs!
