Located in Urumbamba with stunning views of the sacred valley and the Urumbamba river, this is a great option for those seeking a serene, quiet experience. This is new luxury boutique hotel with excellent service, I highly recommend it for couples and familiesRecommended for:
- Hotel Rio Sagrado
The most outstanding part of Rio Sagrado, the Urubumba Valley Orient Express, is definitely the staff, which really feels more like a family. Patricia, the hotel manager warmly greeted me into their home at the front gate. As we roamed the grounds and dined in the delectable restaurant, all of the staff was incredibly gracious, explaining to me why they love this beautiful, historical place so much. They are each an integral part of creating a very distinctive experience.
Rio Sagrado is stacked along the riverbank of the powerful Urubumba River in the Sacred Valley. The property is only four years old, however they are already upgrading the 21 rooms to create a more private experience. The guest rooms will continue to boast stunning views of the neighboring mountains, pictured above, which can also be enjoyed from the shower. The rooms are comfortable and cozy retreats to relax and succumb to the surrounding nature. There are also two villas, each with three bedrooms, for families or guests that would like to stay a bit longer.
The luxurious spa is being renovated and will surely contribute to the already tranquil environment. A new swimming pool is currently being built, which will be perfect for both the young and the young at heart. The main restaurant next to the river creates creative dishes from the organic garden located just outside the front door. I was lucky enough to savor the ceviche and alpaca with quinoto for lunch, and am still dreaming about it.
The recommended stay is three nights, either before or after visiting Machu Picchu, though you may just be enticed to stay even longer. Rio Sagrad0 is a guaranteed way to relax and soak up this gorgeous setting while you are lucky enough to be in this Sacred Valley.
Virtuoso amenities include upgrade on arrival, subject to availability, daily breakfast and $100 spa credit.
