This is actually a pretty chill, laid back bar. I'm only speaking of the bar area, not the B&B. They make really good kamikazee's, or any mixed drink rather. That's more their specialty than beer. It's darkly lit, and not too loud, but not quiet enough that you hear aeveryone else. There's no dancing, but there is light music playing. ...

People watch on the iconic stone steps or stroll through the piazza and splash your face with water from the fountain, or both. Piazza di Spagna is one of Rome's main sights, but it's perfect for budget travelers as a place that can entertain you for an hour, for free. Catch the infiorata in spring, when the steps are covered ...

One of the major Basilicas and Rome and a favorite because the crib of Jesus is found here, I am a Marian devotee and I love the story on how the church was built. It came in a dream and the Blessed Mother said where it will snow buiild the church. It was not winter but it did snow so ...

    Quattro Fontane

On four corners of a traffic-choked intersection sit these four fountains, representing two rivers (the Tiber and Arno) and two goddesses (Diana and Juno) preside peacefully, adding a Renaissance flair to what would otherwise be a routine commute. We think this typifies the 'local' experience in Rome; daily mundane activities against a backdrop of truly incredible art.

In Piazza degli Zingari, this wine bar/cafe/art gallery is gorgeously run by the Calabrian Margherita, an independent woman business owner who works her tail off and has a great wine list. The crowd is a nice mix of expats and Italians. Rotating art exhibitions add to the fun.

Rome is filled with precious pieces of art history that a traveler in a hurry could overlook, and this church is one. Secreted inside is Bernini's masterwork Ecstasy of Saint Teresa, a prime example of sensual Baroque sculpture.

Rome's palm tree filled Piazza is just behind Termini Station and, these days, filled with Indian and Chinese markets, as well as renowned quirky discount Emporium MAS. The square was the geographic center for the Orchestra di Piazza Vittorio, a multicultural band that has found a degree of international fame. This is my favorite museum in all of Rome. Home to a mind-blowing collection of Bernini sculpture - some of the most beautiful in the world. Don't miss Bernini's 'Rape of Proserpine' - an absolute masterpiece (he did it when he was 23). As you walk slowly around the sculpture you can actually see Proserpine transformed from a girl into ...

If you're tired of the tourists around the Trevi Fountain, head a few blocks away to the Palazzo del Quirinale and the piazza near it. The wide open space with a view is a relief from the crowds, and the palazzo is simply beautiful. Admire the guards as they go about their business in spiffy uniforms.

Near Termini, a visit here was the perfect choice for me on a cool rainy Roman day. Wow was I pleasantly surprised! Great museum to spend an afternoon in- it's not nearly as crowded as many of the other sites, which allows for a lot less stress. I saw the National Geographic 125th Anniversary exhibition here and absolutely loved it. There are always rotating exhibitions, when I was there they had 2 running. Also they accept student cards for a discount!
