The hotel on the whole is good. The rooms are large and clean, and the staff is very friendly. The hotel has a small pool, jacuzzi, and a gym. The gym has some pretty ancient equipment, but it gets the job done.
The hotel restaurant is pretty decent. They don't have a lot of variety, but is a nice option if you are feeling lazy about going out. Location is a bit of a problem as there aren't really very many good eating options nearby, and requires you to take a taxi if you want to eat dinner somewhere else.
The rooms include breakfast, which on paper is great, but in practice the breakfast is pretty limited and not very filling. The hotel has good WiFi coverage throughout, which is a nice bonus. Overall a a good option in downtown San José. Especially good for the younger crowd, and for budget travelers.

This centrally located Boutique Hotel is a bit on the small side, but the attention to detail and ideal family setting mean this is one of the more popular places to stay in San Jose. Centrally located in Costa Rica, there are numerous tours that proceed throughout the nation from this area. In fact, the Hotel Santo Tomas works directly with the most reputable of these tour providers, making it an absolute breeze to be picked up directly from your safe and comfy hotel on your way to explore exotic outlying Costa Rica. Additionally, this hotel is rather inexpensive, with rooms starting at around $60 a night. Located in a historic district, this former French Victorian mansion is a great place to bed down while in Costa Rica.Recommended for:Family Travelers
