Location, location, location! I was looking for a hotel that's walking distance to Petco Park, and this was just a block away. A huge plus that it's a Kimpton property. As most Kimptons, service was fantastic, as well as the accommodations.

I had a great room that overlooked the pool which has a lively bar. I can imagine some fun pool parties happening there. The rooms are stylishly decorated and very comfortable.

Be sure to take advantage of the daily hosted wine hour from 5-6pm. It's a nice way to pre-party before heading out for the night.

And of course, the hotel is pet-friendly and there's a 24-hour gym available.

In addition to a central location and the high standards of most Kimptons, the Solamar is a great stop for summer due to its rooftop pool.

Hotel Solamar is located downtown San Diego within walking distance to great bars, restaurants, and Petco Park! Their rooftop bar at Jsix has some of the best views downtown!

The hotel has an attractive roof top pool. As part of the Kimpton hotel group, it is also up to the standards of the chain. The rooms are comfortable and there are a lot of little extras.

San Diego is full of boutique hotels by the ocean and in the Gaslamp Quarter, the city's busiest nightlife neighborhood. Most of them are overpriced and not especially a good value, but this Kimpton hotel is different. Inside a beautiful red-brick building, the roomy rooms are all done up with earth tones and materials. Lots of free perks for staying here, like an evening happy hour with wine, a 24-hour gym and comped internet access.

Loved this place, but usually do like Kimpton Hotels. Location was great, in that it was just a block over from the Gaslamp district main drag, but didn't have to worry about noise or traffic. Was also convenient enough to the public transportation as we didn't rent a car.

If you can plan enough ahead, and/or if there are plenty of rooms left, you can get decent rates here. Especially if you can use a AAA discount.

Bonus! They take dogs here, if that matters.

this was the start of my loyalty to kimpton hotels. we stayed here for our honeymoon, and they upgraded us to a room with a spa. we went to the terrace bar for happy hour each evening before heading out to dinner. great drinks at great prices. location is right in the heart of downtown san diego, so we could walk to nearby restaurants without a problem. we can't wait to go back!
