I can easily forego the lift for the fabulous staircase! A very old building that was originally a cardinal’s residence (no elevators 400 years ago…) it’s so amazing to stay in a place with so much history - the wooden ceilings are wonderful to gaze up on and the location is unbeatable, right next to Piazza Navona, as long as ...

This is Rome! Beautiful square, breath-taking architecture, essential to any walking tour of Rome. Probably best observed at night but there is more to do during the day.

Bernini left his mark on this city like none other, and the only reason this beautiful fountain might be overshadowed is because he constructed a much grander one at the heart of Piazza Navona. Silly goose.

Gorgeous Bernini statue that is justifiably one of Rome's best loved fountains. Gorgeous details, stunning to behold, especially at night. Romantic yet transfixing.

I remember when Bernini's Medusa came to San Francisco. It occupied center stage while visitors circled around it like hawks. Back at the Musei Capitolini, it sits against the wall, overshadowed by the special exhibition. This goes to show just how freakin' grand this museum is, and how it houses so much great art. I arrived at the Musei Capitolini ...

One of my favourite monuments in Rome. It is quite close to Piazza Navona. The church is famous because of the cycle of paintings of master Caravaggio in 1599, 1600, about St.Matthew life.

You could walk down the Via Giulia numerous times and never know that it was first constructed to connect the Vatican with Ponte Sisto; at the time, the straight as an arrow kilometer of road was an innovative development. Today, stroll along and browse the boutiques and galleries.

Francesco Borromini's masterpiece. Even though it's a stone's throw from Piazza Navona, this little church is a hard to find. It is closed in July and August, I got very lucky, I went there June 28th!

This is one of the amazing buildings by Borromini. It faces Piazza Navona and can be enjoyed from a number of different angles while in the Piazza. Unfortunately, despite numerous visits to the exterior, I never saw the church open. However, looking from the outside is the most edifying.

I think i appreciate the Museo di Roma more than I actually like it. It's not exactly filled with interesting stuff, so the 9€ entrance fee seems a bit much. The museum features Roman history mostly revolving around the papal era, with only one room dedicated to ancient history. There is an interesting section on the construction of Piazza Navona, ...
