I can easily forego the lift for the fabulous staircase! A very old building that was originally a cardinal’s residence (no elevators 400 years ago…) it’s so amazing to stay in a place with so much history - the wooden ceilings are wonderful to gaze up on and the location is unbeatable, right next to Piazza Navona, as long as you’re not looking for peace and quiet… there is life day and night, a general buzz, especially with the popular restaurant downstairs. The hotel has no communal space, but as they pointed out, there is plenty of communal space outside… the room has all the essentials; safe, TV, minibar etc and breakfast is very simple and served in the bedroom. there are wooden floors and no carpets which is good. The furniture is a little scratched with no real frills, the shower could have been a little more attractive if the grout was white and clean, but on the whole, a nice place to stay in the hub of the city.

This hotel has an unbeatable central location near Piazza Navona. We stayed for six nights in the room described as the triple deluxe, one double bed and a single in an upper loggia. The single is in its own small room up a flight of stairs with its own door and bathroom. The separation gave us more privacy and sound proofing which we really appreciated. It’s on the top floor up 94 steps. It has a small terrace which it shares with the junior suite separated by a bit of wood lattice work. Weather was comfortable enough we could sit out and drink coffee or enjoy a glass of wine. We had a gorgeous view of Sant’Agnese in Agone from the bedroom window and terrace.

The decor is not sumptuous but everything was clean, roomy and comfortable. The bathrooms had showers only, but we’re shower people anyhow. There was ample storage for clothing. The main bedroom had a desk and an nearby internet connection.

If mobility is an issue, the lack of a lift or elevator would not make this place ideal. However, we loved the stairs even as we felt the burn in our legs going up the final few steps to our room.

The hotel has no breakfast room or restaurant. A fairly simple continental breakfast is served in the room each morning. We found that was adequate for our needs. The staff were always very friendly and courteous.

The area is surrounded by shops and restaurants and is easily within walking distance of a number of major sites.

This is a nice hotel and well run and in the middle of it all, literally. The hotel is just a short walk from the Piazza Navona. It is a bit noisy with all the tourists about, but if it is your first time in Rome, this is probably an ideal hotel for you. I found the crowds and the noise to be annoying, but it is hard to find anywhere in Rome that isn't like this unless you really try. The place was clean and well-maintained. I found it hard to get to on foot, so I would suggest taking a cab from the airport and not doing what I did and meander along with public transport.
