This has to be one of the best pools along Ocean Drive—meaning it’s actually big enough to swim in. Lounging on the elevated pool deck also gives you a bird’s eye view of the parade of people strolling along Ocean. If you ask for a room with a balcony overlooking the pool, the voyeurism can continue. The hotel was recently taken over by Thompson Hotels but is still in the process of Thompsonizing everything. The lobby has some beautiful original Art Deco details and that Jazz Age feel is throughout the hotel—walking the hallways reminded me of being on a grand ocean liner. This feels like a city hotel by the beach, and I expect it to only get better as the transformation continues. Spa V seems like a hidden gem—it’s small but has a private hammam and seven-head Vichy shower for when you need to detox South Beach out of your system.

Steps away from the former Versace Mansion, the Hotel Victor offers modern style in the heart of Ocean Drive's Art Deco District. Originally built in 1936, the hotel has since been revamped with a mix of contemporary touches and time-period décor. I immediately noticed the difference when I entered the spacious lobby. Home to a restaurant and 24-hour concierge, the Victor is a welcome change from many Ocean Drive hotels. I was pleasantly surprised to find a large pool on the 2nd floor, which is rare for the area. However, if the pool isn't your thing, the beach and all of South Beach's beautiful people are directly across the street. The Victor has all the amenities I expect from a luxury hotel, but free WiFi access would be preferable for the price of a room. However, the location and the overall ambiance make the Hotel Victor a prime spot on Ocean Drive.

This is the hotel to stay in on Ocean Drive. When I first walked in the front door, I was awestruck by the complete change in energy from the raucous beach party outside, to the very chill and peaceful mood of the interior. The lobby has a Buddhist feel to it, and the color scheme seems hand-selected for soothing moods and relaxation. You couldn't dream up a better hybrid of South Beach's big lures, a temple of serenity for those who've come to play in Hell's backyard. Love the design, the rooms and especially the pool. Oh, the pool! Seriously, this is the only way I can do Ocean Drive - when I'm kept so chill I forget I'm there at all!
