- Hotel VictoriaFirst to ReviewNov 29, 2012
Unlike most of the smaller hotels down the hill, Hotel Victoria is chock full of amenities, including tennis courts and a swimming pool. It's also one of the few hotels in this area where you need a golf cart to get around. Cascading down the side of El Fortin hill, the Hotel Victoria is a place for those who want to get away from the hustle and bustle of central Oaxaca. It's also a convenient place to stay if you plan to attend an event at the nearby Auditorio Guelaguetza. With 150 rooms, many of which have spectacular panoramic views of the city and surrounding valley, this isn't an intimate hotel. But it's comfortable and clean, and rooms have all the comforts one expects in a larger hotel: wifi, air conditioning, flat-screen TVs, coffee makers, safes, irons and hair dryers. Some suites have bathtubs -- a rarity in Oaxaca -- and some have balconies. Employees are polite and professional, and the front-desk staff speaks good English.

Hotel Victoria is the place to go if you're looking for a room with a view. Perched on the Cerro Fortin hillside, the resort-like 150-room hotel has tennis courts, a swimming pool with a poolside bar, a tiny chapel and a restaurant (with its own beautiful view of the valley) that also provides room and courtyard service. The grounds, which are tranquil except during big events at the nearby Guerlaguetza auditorium, are only a 15-minute walk (or five-minute cab ride) from downtown. Avoid making the hike after dark. Rooms come with air conditioning, flat-screen TVs with cable, coffee makers, hairdryers and bottled water, and some include bathtubs or balconies. Junior suites and villas – which still include only one room, but two or three beds and a big bathroom – are detached from the main building. WiFi is available in the rooms, restaurant, lobby and business center. Make sure your room actually has a view when booking; some don't. Also, ask for a ground-floor room if you don't want to take the stairs.Recommended for:Business Travelers
