Hotel Vitale, a Joie de Vivre hotel

8 Mission Street, San Francisco, CA 94105
4.5

With a view of the San Francisco Ferry Building Marketplace, Hotel Vitale garners a top spot on our 'favorite hotels for foodies' list. Its Italian farmhouse restaurant isn't your ordinary hotel diner; their handmade pasta dishes and homemade wood-fired oven pizzas would confuse even the most Italian of mamas. Plus, the hotel is just a stone-ground grit's throw from the ...

Enjoy the farmers market at this location three days a week, and the building is filled with quality food vendors with everything from fresh produce, meats, and cheeses, to gourmet olive oils and other items. Cowgirl Creamery and the Acme bread company are a couple of my favorites. I also really like Pebbles organic donuts.

A great destination or even as a walk through on a hike along San Francisco's Embarcadero, the Ferry Plaza is full of produce, fancy food, restaurants, cafes and stores. You can catch a ferry across the bay, and eat your lunch on a bench with a dynamite view. On rainy days you can shop the many gourmet shops and plan ...

My first taste of gourmet cheese was at Cowgirl Creamery. Before then, the fanciest cheese that I had tried was Babybel cheese (the little mini cheese rounds enrobed in red wax). I still remember my first taste of Mt. Tam. *Sigh* After my introduction to that triple cream goodness, my tastebuds ditched the kraft cheese and continued down the path ...

Oh vast expanse, quiet night and sweet starlight... Do yourself a favor and check out Justin Herman Plaza at night, when all the crowds dissipate and it's just you and the open space and sky. Cupid's Span is a large sculpture of a bow and arrow pointing into the ground. It's along the water a little ways north of AT&T Park in Rincon Park. The waterfront is a long park and mostly nice. Go a bit further north and you're at the Ferry Building.

The kids really liked this fountain. You can walk through/under it, which was fun for everyone. Not sure I would go out of my way just for the fountain, but it's worth a stop if you're close by.

Getting lost.. ... in a bookstore is so much fun. When I was in college, I would purposely not buy books because 1) I would be too distracted reading a good read than studying, 2) I loved getting curled up in a bookstore with a good read, and 3) it's free! I actually can think of some guy stories regarding ...

As one is walking down the Embarcadero near the Bay Bridge, one of the off-the-wall public art exhibits that catches one's eyes is the Raygun Gothic Rocketship. This drawing realized into real-life shows us what the "future" could have been. Either way, I would definitely ride to space in this.

Still on my bucket list to ice skate in Union Square but nonetheless it is a great spot for walking, shopping & sightseeing year long. Close to the ferry building and fisherman's wharf, it's a notable/iconic location in San Francisco with views of the water. Perks: great for people watching!

I came here for Exploratorium After Dark with some coworkers. For $15, this is quite the experience!
