Staying at the Hotel Vondel is a must for those who are looking for a stylish retreat in the center of Amsterdam. The decoration throughout is surprising in a good way: picture snake-skin framed in the lobby, and a teacup collection in their conference room. Also, the bedrooms are individually decorated with unique pieces of art, which the owner loves to switch around now and then. The rooms have rich color palette and high beds that are definitely easy to sink into. Speaking of sinking into, some rooms also come with a bathtub. When renting out their meeting room, the hotel provides morning pastries, lunch, an afternoon snack, and drinks. Guests can take their lunch in the main floor restaurant, which has a classic style bar, or in the back garden during the summer months. The staff are friendly and attentive. Breakfast is not included in the room price.

The epitome of quaint, this hotel sits down a gorgeous park neighborhood (think lots of trees, New England/Victorian style homes, and clean streets) at the end of Vondelpark. The peaceful, charming surroundings are perks enough (and to be able to trot down the street to the famous Vondelpark is a major win), but the interior of the hotel is no exception. Climb a few steps into the multi-level, three-buildings-in-one accommodation and be greeted with a smile. A cozy, homey "lounge" sits off to the left with vases of fresh flowers for the perfect at-home touch. The bar and restaurant are a comfortable lounging place (and the only place to get free Wi-Fi in the hotel), and traditional winding staircases lead you throughout the hotel to nooks and crannies like an old house. Two things to consider are that the meals are quite expensive (though a drink is perfectly enjoyable in the restaurant), and the rooms are classic and small - which means, like women's clothing, order a size or two bigger than what you would think is comfortable. Otherwise, the charm and quiet of this park residence is just lovely.Recommended for:Family Travelers

I were pleased upon my arrival, as the hotel is located in a nice, quiet residential area very close to the canals, museums, and Vondel Park. The lobby and commom areas are comfortable and nicely decorated. I arrived before check in time, so the front desk staff offered to hold my luggage until my room was available. I thought it would be held in a secure area, so I was quite surprised to return to find my luggage still sitting in the middle of the lobby. I was shown to my room, which was in a separate building next door that you needed your room key to access. Not my ideal set up. Particularly late at night, I prefer the security of seeing hotel staff when returning to my room. The room itself looked nice at first. The problems quickly started adding up though. There was no AC. And the bathroom was a mess. The tub, floor, and mirror were cracked, and the shower sprayed water all over the floor to create a large pool. The worst part of my stay was being woken up each morning around 8am by the cleaning and maintenance staff. They were so loud outside my door--banging things around and yelling. I contacted the front desk--multiple times--to no avail. Their apology, upon check out, was to deduct a bottle of water from my mini bar tab. I have stayed at "boutique" hotels around the world and have never seen such disregard for the comfort of guests. I would never stay at this hotel again, which is a shame after having such high hopes upon checking in.

This place is charming, safe, and quiet: the perfect Amsterdam home away from home. It's in a good location near Vondelpark and surrounded by residential properties, and it's kind of dim inside which makes it feel romantic and relaxing. And the staff who helped me were very friendly and kind.
