If you're looking for a spot on the beach, this is not for you. However, the rooms here are quite large and very comfortable. Its an alternative to the $600 per night room common in Wailea. The rooms are spread out on the property, which looks more like a condo complex than a hotel. If you stay there, you must dine at Capische! One of Maui's finest and most romantic dining experiences by far.

Anne at the Hotel Wailea was an angel. She knew the place inside and out. She even showed me orchards and a beautiful organic garden. Rooms were pleasant and spacious but it was the property that impressed me. The restaurant, Capische, features fine southern Italian cuisine. Guests are served at a cozy, private table in a garden overlooking the sunset and ocean. It’s the real deal for true romantics. The hotel is situated above the busy beach world and stands with an air of healthy color. When I was there a posse of Yogis were in the midst of training, a young bride was being strapped into her wedding dress, kids were playing in the pool. The sense in the air was playful, poetic and sweet. On different days of the week they offer a movie night and fruit picking. This is the place to go forth and be in love!

This boutique-styled condo hotel is one of the only affordable places to stay in Wailea if you don't want to pay $400+ for a tiny beachfront hotel room. Here you'll get a spacious suite and a kitchen/ette, luxury linens on the beds, marble bathrooms and room to relax. True, you don't get some of the amenities that you would at a resort (no spa, no huge pool complex, no restaurants or bars), but that's why I like it here. It's peaceful, and the small swimming pool is enough for me, given that Wailea's beautiful beaches are just a short drive away.

There is just no other place like it. We were greeted with friendly smiles from the time we arrived to the moment we left. We loved the food and ambiance at Capische where we shared a romantic meal while listening to live piano music. The rooms had spectacular views of the ocean and sunset. I highly recommend this hotel to friends and family visiting the island, you won't be disappointed.

Great restaurant, newly upgraded rooms. Beautiful old building housing the lounge and checkin. Our kids enjoyed strolling the gardens.

Beautiful hotel on the more secluded side away from all the tourist traffic. Pristine and private grounds, super spacious rooms with large covered lanais and a stellar view of Kaho'olawe, Molikini and the West Maui Mountains. Well appointed kitchenette and a very friendly staff. The pool is straight outta Hollywood with food, beverage and towel service...not to mention that one of Maui's most romantic restaurants Capishe is located on the far end of the property, away from the rooms. Loved getting fresh tropical fruit every morning from the orchard located on the hotel grounds. Great complimentary car service to take you anywhere you wanna go in the Wailea, Makens and Kihei area. The best bang for your buck on Maui. Period.

If you are like me and not particularly interested in beachfront resorts, then the Hotel Wailea is a great place to be. Located about half mile away up in the “hills” from the beach resorts, it is within easy reach of Polo Beach and Wailea proper by car (there is a public parking lot and restrooms at Polo Beach), or jog or walk down easily. However, jogging back up to the hotel is not as easy as the Hotel Wailea is located high on the side of an old volcano. The hotel does provide a shuttle service to the beach for those less adventurous.

The hotel itself is quite luxurious with a module design of four rooms of 900 square feet to each building, and therefore private and spacious with all the amenities you would expect. The grounds are kept beautifully as is the small swimming pool and hotel proper.

If you are looking for privacy, a spacious intimate suite, just occasional traffic noise, and without the demands of a resort then this is the place to be in Wailea.

Kind of a sleeper for Wailea. Top of the hill with ultra-views and townhouse accommodations. Great grounds with gardens.

The Four Seasons Maui may have poolside cabanas with flat-screen TVs, wi-fi and champagne-stocked mini-fridges. The Hyatt Regency Maui may have penguins and an on-site Macy's. But Hotel Wailea has its own tropical orchard, where guests can pick their own oranges, apple bananas and passionfruit every Monday. Although come to think of it, some might prefer the hotel's Mai Tai Tuesdays. For me, Hotel Wailea just whispers "Maui:" volcanic stone walls, rushing waterfalls, warm ocean breezes scented by a tropical garden. It's a unique boutique hotel experience, a relaxing change of pace from the huge luxury resorts of Wailea and Ka'anapali.

Searching for an alternative to the frenetic (and wallet-pummeling) resort scene along Wailea's beachfront strip, I heard whispers of a memorable boutique hotel perched high in the Haleakala foothills. At the Hotel Wailea, I found a welcome dose of sanity (and serenity). The lobby is a work of Polynesian art, all rough-hewn stone, twisted wood and high conical roofs, with warm trade winds whispering throughout. My room was comfortable, elegant, with a functional kitchen and knee-weakening views from the lanai. One small niggle -- I would have liked a headboard. The pool is a kidney-shaped affair, a little pedestrian by Wailea standards; the workout room is a bit under-equipped, but how could anyone feel pain while looking at these views? The on-site Capische Restaurant is pricey but thrillingly romantic, with tables scattered along a veranda perched high above the twinkling lights and stunning sunsets of Wailea. The Grand Wailea, the Fairmont and the Four Seasons may have that uber-resort wow factor, but the romantic, stress-melting serenity of the Hotel Wailea is what I long for when the rains set in back home.
