This is an institution in Budapest, and one of the greatest and most traditional coffeehouses in Europe. The inside was gorgeous with chandelier and wood paneling. Most people come here for coffee and desserts. They also have a lovely cafe that serves proper meal. My friend and I had lunch there. They actually bring out a tiny jar of goose ...Popular withFoodiesLuxuryFamilies

As a child, I used to walk here from my grandmother's house with a few forints in my hand for a scoop of ice cream. The prices may have gone up since then, but not by much. The ice cream can call forth a line around the building, and the pastries -- both sweet and savory -- are flaky and ...Popular withFoodiesStudentsFamilies

If you're craving a little Mexican food in Budapest, Iguana is definitely the place to go. I used to come here with my friends on weekends quite a bit, and would sometimes take lunch breaks here when I worked at the Embassy (around the corner). The restaurant is festive and cozy, with an upstairs and downstairs section. Their burritos and ...Popular withFoodiesBusinessFamilies

Really nice little restaurant/cafe. If you're sitting outside on a colder day theres blankets around the chairs to put round you, which is nice as it's a shame to miss out on fresh air. Some really nice Hungarian dishes. I had the beef stew (cheapest thing on the menu) and it filled me up nicely and tasted lush.Popular withFoodiesStudentsBackpackers

We choose this restaurant, because a guy we were flying on the plane with advised it to us. Staff was very nice and helpful. The design of the restaurant is modern in both side. Get the table near the window, and you'll get the most wonderful sunset at you dinner with the beautiful view on Buda Palace and/or Chain Bridge. ...Popular withFoodiesLuxuryFamilies

In 2005, at the end of a long backpacking trip, friends of my then-girlfriend (who is Hungarian) brought us here for dinner. Trofea pushes all the right buttons for Hungarian cuisine. They have fantastic grilled meats of every variety and the most varied buffet salad bar that I've ever seen. The interior is tricked out like a hunting lodge with ...Popular withHistoryFamiliesFoodies

Popular with the expat community since it's right around the American Embassy, Pomo D'Oro is a great place to go for some authentic Italian food. The atmosphere is elegant while still being comfortable, and you can come dressed up or down. I've only been here for lunch, but it does get quite busy from noon until 2. The number of ...Popular withFoodies

Marxims has some of the best pizza in Budapest...and you get to enjoy it while staring at Communist memorabilia plastered across the walls. It's a dive joint with barbed wire running across the tops of crowded booths, but there's nothing intimidating about this place. The pizza is fantastic, and comes with a jar of addictive sauce you can spoon onto ...Popular withStudentsFoodiesBudget

Gundel is “amazing”! This traditional Hungarian restaurant serves delicious dishes. The décor is beautiful, elegant, welcoming and very romantic — never good for solo diners! The tasting menu was ideal and matched the local chardonnay well. It is a perfect place for a long lunch break after a full morning of sight exploration. Service was slightly standard. The ambiance was ...

This is the place to be for those who like to endulge and have a huge appetite. If you just eat normal portions, order an appetizer or share a main dish between two people. It feels bad throwing all that away, which you can't eat. The food is good and there is a nice atmosphere in this little gem of ...Popular withLocal

Need a coffee break? This is the Alexandra Cafe (aka Bookstore Cafe) at the Paris Gallery in Budapest. Grab an inexpensive macchiato and a slice of cake, and take in this view while you listen to live piano music. #yesthisisrealPopular withHistory

Had one of the best meals of my life here. Real Hungarian goulash (a soup, not a roux as you'll find elsewhere along the Danube), a crepe-like dessert with poppy seeds, and Tokaji Aszu wine. If you are in Hungary, you simply must try Tokaji Aszu. Louis XVI called it the "King of the Wines"

A nice little pastry shop, where you should definitely eat a piece of cake. It was delicious!
- 191072 Budapest, Akácfa Street 38, Hungary
An excellent restaurant specializing in traditional Hungarian dishes and wild game. When visiting Budapest, one must sample dishes such as stuffed cabbage. Kis Pipa Vendegio is the perfect place for a relaxed dinner that will give insight into the lives of the average Hungarian.

Eaten here several times.....atmosphere is very nice, food is 'not bad', although a bit overpriced. Good place to go with small or large group as its usually a fashionable, energetic crowd. Also, next door is bar called 'Mini' which they own and good for cocktails before or after.Popular withBusinessLocalNightlife
