I recently had the pleasure of staying at the Hyatt in Irvine for work. It is kind of a crappy location to be if you need to go to other parts of Orange County because of traffic. However, if you're just going to stay in Irvine, the Hyatt is located in a prime location.

They have convenient valet. I stayed there for 2 nights and it only cost me $7 plus tip. The front desk people are very friendly. They offered me a chocolate chip cookie while they checked me in.

My room was on a higher floor but there really isn't much of a view anywhere in Irvine. The room was clean and fairly spacious. I did notice that their AC did not work too well. Once it is turned on, one side of the room gets very cold while the other side remains warm. The bathroom was also a little bit small but manageable.

Most of the hotel guests are business professionals. Everyone in the lobby are dressed in jackets so I felt like I fit right in checking in after a long work day in Lake Forest in my suit. I did feel a little bit out of place walking out to check out in jeans and flip flops. I didn't notice any family or children around so it's probably not much of a family hotel.

For the rate, it's pretty decent! There's no restaurant outside of the hotel that you can walk to so you'll need to rent a car if you stay here. You can also take a cab too but that can get expensive, especially if you want to venture out a bit and check out the surrounding towns. It's not a bad stay but it's not centrally located.

This is absolutely my favorite place to stay in the Orange County area. The staff is very nice. The rooms are very fresh and new and the beds are very comfortable. The bar has an impressive wine list from around the world. But the best thing about this hotel is the bikes. You can check out a bike from the front desk FOR FREE and the Mountain to the Sea Trail awaits in front if the hotel. It's a nice 7-mile pedal to world-class beaches.
