It's hard to envision a better location than that enjoyed by the Savannah Hyatt. Overlooking River Street, the Savannah River and City Hall, it commands the historic district. The rooms are spacious, comfortable and fabulous, which somewhat makes up for the loss of B&B charms found at Savannah's inns and B&B's.

The Hyatt is a favored high-rise on the river. It has the advantages of a Hyatt Regency with the added attraction of being riverfront. Once inside the revolving doors you hear nothing…none of the traffic noise, nothing from the party-hardy crowd. This is a civilized scenario with concierges who are pros and patient, accommodating front-desk receptionists. Management is long-term and the operation runs smoothly.
The hotel has the atrium architecture and glass elevators that were the rage. Kids are psyched by the ride to their room. They like the pool, too. I am always grateful for a swim in Savannah, particularly in the steamy summer, but would like to see it made more resort-like.
Once I stayed in a room with a furnished patio overlooking the river. This year I had a generous suite but no water view. (Robes and slippers are delivered upon request.) As much as I enjoy watching the river, I did love the suite life and breakfast. For the first time I had the full southern buffet (not included), which was impressive and the restaurant had the views.Recommended for
