This hotel is right across the street from the Duke Kahanamoku statue and Waikiki Beach. There are a number of shops in the hotel and in the surrounding buildings, including an ABC Store. There are two towers of rooms, and the Oceanside has some great views of all the surfers. The rooms are standard size with standard amenities.

Right in the heart of Waikiki, the Hyatt Regency may be a chain, but it's slicker than a lot of the other overpriced properties by the beach. There's tons of fun for kids here (including Camp Hyatt activities, so parents can get some time alone), and the beach is just a short walk outside your door. It's midway down the Kalakaua Ave strip, which is convenient, too.Recommended for:

I have stayed here several times.
It is huge and impersonal.
It caters to a mostly Japanese Clientele and there are always big crowds as this hotel also caters to groups and conventions.
It is across the street from waikiki beach and the pool is on the 9th floor along with a restaurant that has great food and drinks overlooking the city.
Rooms are big and because the hotel towers are round most of the city view rooms also have views of the ocean.Recommended for:

Stayed here with out of towner friends. I was really impressed by this hotel.
The rooms are very spacious and very clean. The beds were nice and comfy too. Although we didn't have the ocean view, we still had the great view of the mountains side. The morning sunrise was beautiful and the fresh hawaiian breeze was so refreshing. Only a few hundred feet walk from all the stores and boutiques and all the high-end stores are right on the hotel's door steps.

Though right in the middle of Waikiki bustle and noise, this Hyatt is deliberately designed to be an oasis. Not directly on the beach, it at least looks over Kalakaua Avenue for an unbroken view of the ocean. The two narrow towers of rooms are connected by an open air mini-mall and a 2nd floor patio level, which are much nicer than I'm making them sound. :) It's a really nice hotel that's very central.
