Hydra Town

3 reviews

Hydra is a beautiful island a few hours from Athens, Greece. There are no vehicles allowed (only 2 trucks on the whole island) so all transportation is by donkey or bicycle. The town is very picturesque, and the water is crystal clear. I wish I could have spent more than an hour or two there.

Poros is a tiny island of natural beauty with clean sandy beaches and local tavernas. It's not commercial, it feels like "real" greece. Made up of local fishing villages & small shops selling beautiful ceramics.

So much culture and boy are they proud of it. Everyone there practically told us their history. The museums are full of amazing artifacts and pretty much everywhere you go you will see an important piece of their history. The city if very crowded and loud though but still exciting and new.

Piraeus is the port for Athens and a major departure point for ferries to outlying islands. Central Athens is only 6 miles away to the Northeast. Gayle and I arrived here on the Norwegian Jade for a day stop, including a bus tour. You can take public transit from here to other points in the metropolitan area, but the hassle ...

We drove from Athens to stay in Tolo. There are amazing views of the surrounding mountains & islands in this beautiful area. There's a long shingle/sand beach & a busy little fishing harbour. Good choice of shops, tavernas & bars without it feeling over commercialised.

Much of the advice you’re looking for depends on how long you’re going to be in Greece and what you want out of the trip. If you’re big on historical sights and have the time, I would recommend renting a car and driving to Delphi, Epidavros, Mycenae, and Meteora. These sights are beautiful, very rich in history but a bit ...

Easy to reach from the Pireus, near Athens, Salamina Island is a great place where you can relax, visit with nice daily walks and has its little ‘taverna’ by the sea where real Greek cuisine is served. It is the site of the ancient Great Battle of Salamis determining the future of Europe.

Porto Rafti is a suburb of Athens. There are many different beaches because of the small gulfs that exist. Cape Sounion is a promontory located 69 kilometres SSE of Athens, at the southernmost tip of the Attica peninsula. It is noted noted as the site of ruins of an ancient Greek temple of Poseidon, the god of the sea in classical mythology. The remains are perched on the headland, surrounded on three sides by the sea. The ruins bear ...
